Chris Chelios said it was a "bummer" that he got the Hockey Hall of Fame call with nobody in his family home.
"There's no one in my house; everyone's either at hockey or lacrosse camps," said Chelios, whose son Jake is playing in the Blackhawks' prospect camp this week. "Prior to the call, I didn't answer a few times because my cell doesn't work in the house. Prior to that I was getting calls from friends. I was getting nervous. Until it happens . the word 'surreal' comes to mind. It's been a great day."

Chris Chelios is getting his feet wet in the coaching business by helping out the Detroit farmhands in Grand Rapids.
It looks like Chelios wants to eventually become a head coach and of course his preference will be at the NHL level but he knows he has a lot to learn. "One thing I've learned is you could be the greatest player of all time, but you really do need experience to coach," Chelios said. "There's a lot of stuff to learn, a lot of stuff you learn only through experience. It's just the way it is. I like it. We'll see." In the meantime, Chelios is helping future Red Wing defensemen including Brendan Smith hone their skills in the minors.
