Wellman has signed a one-year contract with Spartak Moscow of the KHL, Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post reports. The 27-year-old Wellman spent all of last season with AHL Hershey in the Capitals' organization, collecting 25 goals and 29 assists across 73 games. Wellman's production has been more modest in his 54 career NHL games, and he seemed poised to settle into an organizational depth role had he elected to remain in North America. Instead, he'll presumably take on a more featured role in the KHL, which could allow him to build up his value and warrant more interest should he elect to pursue a return to the NHL next summer.

Casey Wellman has been sent to the minors by the Capitals. Wellman has two goals and an assist in 13 games with Washington this season. He also has 15 goals and 29 points in 46 AHL contests.

Casey Wellman has been recalled by Washington. Brooks Laich doesn't appear to be ready to return from his lingering groin issue, so Wellman will join the team and he may draw into the lineup for Saturday's game against Phoenix.

The Washington Capitals have sent Casey Wellman back to Hershey of the AHL. Wellman was recalled on Saturday and played 10:03 minutes with a couple of blocked shots but he was not in the lineup Sunday as the Caps returned him to the AHL. Wellman had 14 goals and 28 points in 44 AHL games with Hershey before his recall.

Casey Wellman found the back of the net for the first time this season on Saturday. Wellman will likely stay with the Capitals until Grabovski returns to action.
