Makar will be in the lineup for Monday's Game 3 against the Flames.
EDGE Analysis
This news isn't a huge surprise after Makar was signed out of the University of Massachusetts on Sunday. The Avalanche were dealt an injury blow, however, with Samuel Girard out with an undisclosed injury. In his stead, Makar is expected to enter the lineup on the third defensive pair with Patrik Nemeth, and should see some power-play time on the second unit. The recently-crowned Hobey Baker winner will have huge expectations heading into his professional debut for Game 3.

Makar picked up an assist in the University of Massachusetts's 4-3 overtime victory over the University of Denver in Frozen Four action Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Makar and the Minutemen will play for the NCAA Championship against Minnesota-Duluth on Saturday. Before that game takes place, Makar is the overwhelming favorite to be named the winner of the 2019 Hobey Baker Award as collegiate hockey's top player Friday evening. After Saturday's game is complete, Makar is expected to immediately sign with Colorado and enter the lineup for its first-round playoff series against Calgary. Considering the Avalanche were shut out 4-0 in Game 1 on Thursday, Colorado can certainly use the offensive spark that the 2017 fourth overall selection will undoubtedly provide. Makar is legitimately one of the best players in the world not currently playing in the NHL.

Coach Jared Bednar said there's "every indication" Makar could help the Avalanche if they make the playoffs, Ryan S. Clark of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Bednar basically stated what was already known, as Makar is having an outstanding season with the University of Massachusetts, racking up 16 goals and 48 points in 39 games. The team has advanced in the tournament and won't play again until April 11. If it wins, it'll play for the national championship April 13, and Makar would be expected to join the team after that if the Avs make the playoffs. Makar would add vital offensive support from the blue line, as only one of Colorado's defensemen have more than 24 points this season -- Tyson Barrie has 56.
