Heeter signed a professional tryout contract with AHL Toronto on Thursday. It seems likely that the minor league squad has one of its goalies dealing with the injury, hence the team's decision to bring Heeter aboard. The 26-year-old spent all of the 2013-14 season in the Flyers organization, going 16-25-2 with a 2.65 GAA and .912 save percentage for AHL Adirondack.

The Philadelphia Flyers have yet to decide whether or not to give goaltender Cal Heeter a qualifying offer. The decision must be made by Monday and if the Flyers choose not to qualify Heeter, he becomes an unrestricted free agent, rather than a restricted free agent if they decide to qualify him. The 25-year-old Heeter is likely an AHL goalie next season after he managed to make his NHL debut in the regular season finale as he stopped 33 of 38 in a 6-5 shootout loss to the Hurricanes.

Philadelphia Flyers fill-in goalie Cal Heeter suffered a loss in his NHL debut as the Carolina Hurricanes won 6-5 (S0) on Sunday. Heeter stopped 33 out of 38 shots. The 25-year-old isn't likely to see much time, as he was giving Ray Emery a breather while Steve Mason nurses an upper-body injury.
