He gave the Pens a 1-0 lead when he opportunistically grabbed the puck when the Caps' defender fell and he swooped in on a breakaway and wired a wrister past Ilya Samsonov. Rust broke in again early in the second after out-hustling two Caps, faked left and went right, and slipped the disc into the net. Rust has 22 goals this season and 100 on his career.

EDGE Analysis
His third-period tally gave the Pens a 3-0 lead and held up as the game-winner. Rust has found the back of the net in three straight games and four of the last five to reach the 20-goal plateau for the second straight season, and given his spot alongside Sidney Crosby both on the power play and at even strength, there's no reason to expect Rust to slump down the stretch.

Rust helped set up Sidney Crosby's goal in the opening minute, and the center returned the favor on Rust's goal in the second period. Six of Rust's 19 goals and 12 of his 38 points this season have come in seven meetings with the Devils. He'll face them for the eighth and final time Saturday, so look for Rust to make the most of that opportunity.

Rust scored his first of three 6:18 into the second period while on a man advantage, burying a wrister from the slot to make it 4-0. He added his second tally 2:03 later on a rebound in front, then completed his fourth career hat trick with an empty-netter in the final minute of the third.
