Bryan McCabe has accepted a job in player development with the Panthers. McCabe skated for Florida from 2009-11 and has unofficially retired from playing. The former Panthers' captain helped GM Dale Tallon during this past weekend's entry draft. "This is an opportunity to work with the kids," McCabe said. "I'm still relevant a little bit in which the kids know who I am. They saw me play. I think I can help out and groom these kids." We wish McCabe luck in his new career.

Bryan McCabe said he is unofficially retired. "Am I trying to play again? No. I'm done," McCabe said. "I'm down here, retired, have three kids now so that's what I'm doing. That's real work. The offers came in, but I don't want to leave here. We called it a day." He watched Florida's game versus Ottawa on Wednesday from the press box and is helping the team with some scouting before the Feb. 27 trade deadline. McCabe appeared in 1,135 career games, while generating 528 points and 1,732 penalty minutes.

Bryan McCabe reportedly got an offer to play with a Western Conference team, but he turned it down to avoid moving his family. We're roughly a month into the regular season and McCabe is still an unrestricted free agent. It's possible that a team dealing with injuries or looking for a boost as they battle for playoff positioning will sign McCabe this season, but it's also possible that he's played in his last NHL game. We'll keep an eye on the situation, but there has been little to no news on the McCabe front recently.

Bryan McCabe is in discussions with "several teams" according to his agent, Ian Pulver. McCabe is still an unrestricted free agent. He's reportedly been offered a few tryout offers, but he hasn't accepted any of them yet. He's worth keeping an eye on as he could still have some fantasy value if he ends up on a team willing to give him some power-play ice time.
