Nelson inked a three-year, $22.5 million contract with Colorado on Wednesday.

Nelson was expected to hit free agency July 1 but instead has decided to tie himself to the Avalanche for the next three years. With Nelson's signature, the Avs have locked up their No. 2 center behind Nathan MacKinnon. In his short stint with the Avs, Nelson racked up six goals and seven assists in 19 regular-season contests, reaching the 50-point threshold for the fourth straight year.

Nelson registered two assists and two PIM in Thursday's 7-4 win over the Stars in Game 6.

Nelson helped out on both of Valeri Nichushkin's tallies in the contest. This was Nelson's second two-assist game of the series, both of which have come in Denver -- he's been held off the scoresheet in three games in Dallas. Nelson logged two assists, three shots on goal and a plus-2 rating in Saturday's 4-0 win over the Stars in Game 4.

Nelson set up goals by Gabriel Landeskog and Samuel Girard. This ended a four-game slump for Nelson, who had been fairly quiet in a second-line role this postseason, though the addition of Landeskog on his wing could be beneficial for both players. Nelson has picked up nine shots on net, six hits, nine blocked shots and a plus-4 rating over four playoff contests.

Nelson scored two goals Saturday in a 5-4 loss to the Kings.

He earned the 300th and 301st goals of his career. According to Dan Greenspan of NHL.com, Nelson is the 28th American-born NHLer to hit 300 and one of just six active forwards, joining Patrick Kane, Chris Kreider, Auston Matthews, Max Pacioretty and James van Riemsdyk. Nelson could be a difference-maker for the Avalanche in the postseason. He has compiled 27 goals and 50 points in 78 NHL playoff outings.

He's a reliable scorer in a top-six role who can help fantasy managers with points and shots.

Nelson should provide consistent offense for the rest of the season and be a strong play in all fantasy formats for the postseason.
