McGinn has just one goal in his past eight games.
EDGE Analysis
Anyone who rushed out and plucked McGinn off the waiver wire after he scored a goal and an assist in his NHL debut last month has been sorely disappointed. McGinn is still skating mainly on the Canes' second line with Jordan Staal and Nathan Gerbe, but he's failed to produce much by way of offense. What's worse, his ice time has declined steadily since he skated 15:21 in his first game, hitting a season low of 8:11 on Oct. 29. We need to see more from McGinn offensively before we can start recommending him. Avoid.

McGinn is expected to make his NHL debut Friday against the Red Wings.
EDGE Analysis
The Hurricanes will hope McGinn can provide the offensive spark they so desperately need, as they have only managed to score a total of five goals in their first three games of the season. The 21-year-old forward has tallied two goals in the two games he's played in with AHL Charlotte this season, and will likely slot in as a bottom-six forward if he does in fact make his NHL debut Friday against Detroit.

McGinn was recalled by the Hurricanes on Wednesday, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
EDGE Analysis
McGinn was considered one of the better prospects prior to last season, but a relatively slow season (just 27 points in 73 games) with AHL Charlotte have slightly tempered expectations. The 21-year-old has two goals in two games this season, however, and will provide depth among the forward ranks at least for the time being. If he ends up dressing, it would represent his NHL debut.

McGinn was assigned to AHL Charlotte on Thursday, the Raleigh News & Observer reports. McGinn was a longshot to crack the Canes' roster this season, having only played four games at the AHL level two seasons ago. If he can show the same kind of scoring touch with the Checkers that he had in junior (171 points in 227 games over four seasons with the Guelph Storm of the OHL), he should be one of the first guys the Canes call up if they run into injury trouble.

McGinn has been invited to the Hurricanes' training camp despite being slowed by a leg injury at the annual Traverse City prospects tournament, the Raleigh News & Observer reports. GM Ron Francis said McGinn was not at 100 percent during the tournament, and described the injury as a "charley horse". Despite the injury, McGinn was one of several Canes prospects to receive an invitation to training camp, even though most, if not all, will likely wind up back in junior or at AHL Charlotte. McGinn is one of the Canes' more promising prospects, having scored 85 points in 58 games last season with the Guelph Storm of the OHL.

Brock McGinn is close to reaching the NHL level, according to his OHL coach, Scott Walker. "That's a lot of pressure to put on a kid, to say he's ready for the NHL, and he's certainly not expecting anyone to give him anything," Walker said of McGinn. "He's going to work his butt off, and I think people will love the way he plays." McGinn had 43 goals and 85 points in 58 OHL games in 2013-14. He's not a safe bet to make the Hurricanes' opening game roster, but at the same time, it wouldn't be shocking if he manages to secure a spot.
