Brian Rafalski has confirmed that his comeback attempt is over.
Rafalski was released from ECHL Florida after being sidelined since Jan. 18 with a back problem. "I'm getting some mobility back," he said of his back, but added, "There's no reason to keep going. This is not something you can push or play through or goes away." He hasn't played in the NHL since the 2010-11 campaign. Rafalski won the Stanley Cup three times and had 515 points in 833 games.

Brian Rafalski has been released from ECHL Florida.
Rafalski has been dealing with a sore back and consequently hasn't played since Jan. 18. He had an assist in three contests with Florida. It's not clear if that will be the end of his comeback attempt, but it's certainly not a good sign.

Brian Rafalski agreed to a contract with ECHL Florida on Thursday.
The 40-year-old defenseman retired in 2011. Rafalski got the itch to play again after participating in a Red Wings' alumni game at last week's Winter Classic. He wants to see where this takes him and hopes to be back in the NHL. The Everblades are a shared affiliate of the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Carolina Hurricanes.
