McGrattan signed a deal with the Nottingham Panthers of Elite Ice Hockey League on Friday.

McGrattan is an old school enforcer as evident by his 609 PIM in 317 contests in the majors. The veteran has not suited up in an NHL uniform since he was with the Calgary Flames during the 2014-15 season, and even then he only made eight appearances. With all levels of North American hockey seemingly dead set on eliminating fighting, it should come as no surprise that guys like McGrattan are heading abroad.

McGrattan wasn't going to be much of a factor in the NHL this season, but this is still a pretty serious situation, although McGratten was able to regain full movement, so the worst has been avoided. Look for him remain sidelined with the San Diego Gulls indefinitely.

McGrattan was assigned to the Ducks' AHL affiliate in San Diego on Monday.

No too much of a surprise here, as McGrattan was one of a number of players cut from the Ducks' roster on Monday. McGrattan did not dress for any of the Ducks' three preseason games.

McGrattan signed a one-year contract with the Ducks on Friday. McGrattan only suited up for eight games with the Flames last season, and did not tally a single point in those contests. He will likely spend most of 2015-16 with AHL San Diego, and will provide the Ducks with some depth at forward in case of injury.

McGrattan cleared waivers Saturday and will report to AHL Adirondack, Randy Sportak of the Calgary Sun reports. McGrattan had gone largely unused by the Flames through the first half of the season, appearing in only eight games. He'll pick up more ice time in the minors and continue to provide forward depth for the organization.

McGrattan has been placed on waivers, according to Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960. McGrattan has been a healthy scratch nearly every game this season after seeing a fair amount of minutes last year. With the age of the enforcer dwindling, it appears McGrattan's time in the NHL may be coming to a close after 27 career points and 609 penalty minutes in 317 games.

McGrattan was a healthy scratch Tuesday for the fifth straight game. With a youth movement in Calgary, McGrattan is in town more for his veteran presence than anything. He will likely get back in the lineup at some point, and will provide some depth for the team's grind line.

The goal was special given that it was just the 10th marker and 26th point of his career. From a fantasy perspective, the 32-year-old enforcer is a reliable source of penalty minutes, but he's doesn't get enough to justify the nearly complete lack of offensive production.

McGrattan, with his second in as many games, beat Martin Jones with a spinning slap shot with 2:22 remaining to cut Los Angeles' lead to one. McGrattan now has three goals and two assists with 95 penalty minutes in 59 games this season. Mike Cammalleri scored the other goal in the loss.

Brian McGrattan potted the only goal for Calgary in its 2-1 loss to the Canucks on Saturday night. McGrattan's goal was his second of the season, his first since Dec. 12.
