Connolly sat out his third game in four outings during Friday's 2-1 win over the Predators.

With zero points and only two shots recorded in the five games he did play in this season, Connolly has found himself on the outside of the Panthers starting lineup. The Cats have a bevy of younger wingers fighting for a spot in the bottom six, which means Connolly may be watching from the press box a lot this season unless he can muster an offensive spark soon.

Connolly was unable to add to the offense in Tuesday's 5-4 overtime win against the Blackhawks, ending the night without a shot on goal.

After joining the Panthers for the 2019-20 season, Connolly was thrust into a top-six role and started the season out hot with 21 points in his first 29 games. Since then however, he's gone ice-cold. He's scored only 4 points in his last 30 games with the team, including four playoff games. Head coach Joel Quenneville already has the winger starting on the fourth line, so it wouldn't be a shock to see him as a healthy scratch if his offensive woes continue.

Connolly tallied 19 goals and 33 points in 69 games prior to the league suspension of play in mid-March.

2010's sixth overall pick joined his fourth NHL team this season after spending time with Tampa Bay, Boston and Washington. Connolly has received a career-high 14:30 of ice time with the Panthers, which he's parlayed into what would be (should play resume) a near-guaranteed return to the 20-goal plateau for the second straight year after failing to get there in his first seven professional campaigns. His six power-play points are a personal best, too, and have come in a modest 1:18 of average man-advantage time. All told, the ship has probably sailed on Connolly ever delivering on his lofty draft position, but at the age of 28, he should still be in his prime and good for a point every-other-game or so.

Connolly scored a goal on two shots in a 2-1 win over St. Louis on Monday.

Connolly picked an opportune time to snap his 12-game goal drought, beating Jordan Binnington from below the left faceoff circle just over four minutes into the third period to put the Panthers ahead to stay. It was Connolly's 19 goal of the season, leaving him on the doorstep of a second straight 20-goal campaign.

Connolly was held off the scoresheet with only one shot and a minus-2 rating in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the Blackhawks.

EDGE Analysis

After scoring 14 goals in his first 29 games with a shooting percentage of 26.4 percent, Connolly has come back down to earth. He has only two goals and eight points in his last 20 games, shooting at a much lower 6.5 percent. He has converted on 14.3 percent of shots in his career, so neither stretch is truly indicative of his usual play, and he will likely find his scoring touch again after the All-Star break.

Connolly registered two assists, three shots on goal, two hits and two PIM in Sunday's 8-4 win over the Maple Leafs.

Connolly now has four points over his last four games. The 27-year-old winger has 29 points (16 goals, 13 helpers) in 45 appearances this season. As Sunday showed, the Panthers can have an explosive offense, and Connolly is typically a good source of depth scoring when the team runs hot.

Connolly beat Pittsburgh goalie Tristan Jarry on the doorstep midway through the first period to give Florida a 2-1 lead. It was Connolly's 16th goal of the season but his first at even strength since Nov. 27. The 27-year-old has enjoyed a strong first season in Florida and is on pace to eclipse the career-high 22 goals he scored last season for Washington.

Connolly picked up an assist in Sunday's 6-5 win over the Canadiens.

He was in a bit of a slump before this weekend's back-to-back saw him pick up a goal and an assist. Connolly has been a bit of a surprise addition to the Panthers offense, scoring 15 goals and adding 10 helpers in 38 games so far this season.

Connolly was held without a goal for the seventh straight game in Monday's 6-1 loss to Tampa Bay.

Since Dec 10 though, offense has dried up for Connolly who has only managed two assists in his last seven games. He is still on pace for career-highs in both goals and points as he already has 23 points in 36 games.
