ADD'EM: CAP IT OFF, ITS MILLER TIME! primepucks.com Sun 2/12/17 10:55 AM

As the season winds down, waiver wire pickups become even more crucial, so it’s vital to pick just the right fit.  PrimePucks™ takes a look this week at some interesting targets.  We have a few surprising options at forward and a few picks on defense that you have heard of Let’s start on defense as we have 4 names that just may pique your interest.  3 are veterans and one is a young, up-and-coming defenseman.  Jack Johnson (7.0% ESPN Leagues) of the Columbus Blue Jackets has always been an intriguing pick on the backend but has always seemed to disappoint in fantasy land. However, this season sees JJ starting to contribute more of late with 4 assists in this last 6 games.  SO maybe he can fill that last defenseman spot on your squad.  Then there is Alex Goligoski (30.5%), another d-man who has disappointed fantasy owners over the years but has contributed in spurts here and there, so he does have the potential.  Being on a last-place Arizona Coyotes team may not tickle your fancy but the Yotes just got Max Domi back off the IR and “Gogo” has 4 points in last 5 games but only 19 points on the season, so his success may hinge on Domi’s.   Matt Niskanen is another defenseman that has the potential to be a big offensive success on the blue line but is relied upon more for his defense until the star offensive d-man on the team goes off for an injury.  But being on a high-powered offense like the Washington Capitals has its benefits and “Nisky” is still available in some leagues with 75.7% ownership. Lastly we take a look on Broadway to see the next potential rising star on the blue line.  Brady Skjei (19.4%) has 25 points in this his first full season with the NY Rangers, so it’s not too shabby considering he is learning to play in the NHL on the fly.  He has 4 assists in last 4 games and 5 in last 6 with 8 points in last 13 games so his offense is starting to pick up.  Any of these four defensemen can help your fantasy squad but some have more risk than others. At forward, there is the Washington Capital pair of Marcus Johansson (66.2%) and Brett Connolly (4.4%) both with 4 goals and 4 assists in the last 7 games.  Being on such an explosive offense means that you can obtain points just by literally being on the ice.  One name that I shy away from only because he is such a streaky player who disappears for lengthy periods of time in Minnesota’s Jason Pominville (33.1%).  Although the Wild are one of the top-scoring teams in the NHL this season, he is such a...

DAILY PRIME - DECEMBER 2, 2014: BISHOP BESTS BLUESHIRTS AGAIN primepucks.com Tue 12/2/14 9:23 AM

Tampa Bay seems unbeatable now that they have D-man Victor Hedman (3A) back in the lineup. I'm sure the NY Rangers are glad that they don't have to face the Lightning anymore after losing all three matchups against the Bolts, the latest a 6-3 drubbing on home ice.  The Lightning broke open a 3-3 game with 3 in the 3rd period showcasing their well-rounded talent up and down the lineup. This team isn't all about Steven Stamkos and Ben Bishop as evidenced by their young talent producing lately. Brett Connolly scored two goals, including the game-winner, and Tyler Johnson also scored twice and added an assist. Johnson is a must-start while Connolly may be worth a shot in deeper leagues as the 2 points were the RWer's first points in past 7 games.....Bishop has now won 8 straight against the Blueshirts to remain unbeaten against them.... The Columbus Blue Jackets may be happy that November has ended as they started off December with a solid 2-1 victory over the Florida Panthers halting a six-game losing streak. Sergei Bobrovsky had his best game in a while stopping 24 of 25 SOG for the win after losing 5 straight. The Jackets go as Bobrovsky goes, and while the team may have been stricken with a lot of injuries early on, if Bobber gets going, this team can be dangerous.... P.K. Subban helped Montreal keep pace with the Tampa Bay Lightning atop the Eastern Conference as he scored a goal and added an assist in defeating Patrick Roy's Colorado Avalanche. Fantasy fans are waiting for the talented defenseman to step up his game as he has been producing below expectations.  With the start of a new month, perhaps his game will start to click... Edmonton continues to flounder at the bottom of the Western Conference, and like the Philadelphia Flyers, change is coming. Arizona's Mike Smith returned to the net for the Coyotes and played as solid game to pick up his first win after 7 straight losses. He will need to string together a few good games to regain confidence among poolies with beating the Oilers a step in the right direction....Someone named Tobias Rieder scored 2 shorthanded goals at the start of the 2nd period to turn the game around. No need to rush to pick Rieder up as he sees limited action, but Rieder has shown the ability to score in the minors but you can find more reliable forward depth out there..... Anaheim G Frederik Andersen (32/34 SV) snapped a modest 2-game losing streak with a solid performance against the Boston Bruins allowing the Ducks to ...

Injury: Connolly (lower-body) could be back in the Lightning lineup... dailyfaceoff.com Wed 11/5/14 2:56 PM

Connolly has started doing some light skating on his own and will likely try and ramp things up and return to practice in the next week or so. If that happens it would put him on track to be back in the middle of November.

Injury: Connolly (lower-body) is listed as week-to-week. dailyfaceoff.com Sat 10/25/14 2:56 PM

Connolly suffered a lower-body injury on Friday and did not return. Week-to-week is a really vague timetable, but expect him to miss at least one week and be reevaluated after that.

Injury: Connolly (lower-body) is not expected to play on Saturday. dailyfaceoff.com Sat 10/25/14 2:56 PM

Connolly suffered the lower-body injury early in Friday's game and he did not return. With Connolly unlikely to play, the Lightning will have to recall another forward from Syracuse before Saturday's meeting with the Wild.

Call up / Send down: The Lightning have reassigned Brett Connolly t... dailyfaceoff.com Fri 11/22/13 7:56 PM

Connolly recorded just one goal and a minus-5 rating in 11 games. "[Connolly is] struggling to find his game. He's not getting things accomplished, GM Steve Yzerman said. "We just feel it's better for him to go back." Tampa Bay is expected to recall another winger in the near future.

Line Change: Brett Connolly in; Pierre-Cedric Labrie out. dailyfaceoff.com Thu 10/17/13 7:56 PM

Connolly who was expected to replace Martin St. Louis if he couldn't go will still be in the lineup despite St. Louis playing. Connolly has one assist in three games with Syracuse (AHL).

DAILY PRIME- SEPTEMBER 20, 2013: PRE-SEASON FANTASY BITS; RNH EXTEN... primepucks.com Fri 9/20/13 8:43 AM

Pavel Datsyuk seems to be on a mission and with the way he's been playing so far in the pre-season he could finish in the top ten in scoring this year. Perhaps being in the Eastern Conference and having less travel time will improve all the Red Wing's numbers....Another mission statement, this one by Ryan Miller, who is out to prove that he belongs among the top goaltenders in the league. Don't write him off as this team could be underestimated....Who is Brayden McNabb? Sabre fans will know but perhaps the rest of the fantasy world doesn't.  The 22 year old defenseman had a goal and two assists in last night's win over the Hurricanes.  He played well with LW Johan Larsson, who had 2 goals and an assist in the game, but don't expect them to be major contributors this year. Keep them in mind though for the future perhaps...Two names that won't be voted off the Island if they produce are RW Kyle Okposo and C Josh Bailey. The former had 2 assists last night and the latter had 2 short-handed goals.  These 2 paired up and have shown some chemistry.  Don't forget them on draft day as the Islanders will be a much improved team this year....With all eyes on this year's top draft pick Jonathan Drouin, it was Brett Connolly who posted 2 goals in last night's game. Don't forget about this 46-goal scorer in the WHL in 2010-2011 and who also scored 31 goals in the AHL last year...Toronto Maple Leaf Nazem Kadri is proving that he will continue with the work effort he displayed last season by potting his 2nd goal of the pre-season. Big Signing:The Edmonton Oilers continue to lock up their young talent to long-term contracts. This time they inked C Ryan Nugent-Hopkins with a 7-year extension meaning RNH joins taylor Hall and Jordan Eberle who have signed long-term contracts with the club. Now the young guns can concentrate on hockey for the next 6-7 years.  Nugent-Hopkins had a disappointing 24 points in 40 games last year but was hindered by a shoulder injury and is now rehabbing from off-season surgery on that shoulder.
