Perlini (face) will be sidelined versus New Jersey on Thursday and doesn't have a specific timeline to return, Mike Morreale of NHL.com reports.

Perlini required 23 stitches to close up a laceration on his nose but appears to have avoided any serious damage. The winger remains with the team heading into the next three games of a four-game road trip, so he could still suit up before the club returns to Detroit. The recently returned Robby Fabbri (jaw) should slot into a top-six role with Perlini unavailable.

Perlini took a skate to the face in Tuesday's matchup with Buffalo but didn't suffer any serious injuries, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Perlini remains on the active roster as a spare forward. It's not beyond the realm of possibility that he'll end up getting waived and subsequently demoted to AHL Grand Rapids, but seeing as how the Wings still have some fight left in them despite a horrendous record (11-30-3), Perlini should still get the occasional top-level look.

Perlini was on the ice for just 12 shifts in Saturday's 5-3 loss to the Penguins.

Perlini generated an assist and two shots on goal in Saturday's 4-3 shootout loss to the Sharks.

Perlini set up another struggling forward, Taro Hirose, for a goal in the second period. The helper was Perlini's first point of the year in 10 games between the Red Wings and Blackhawks. The 23-year-old has added 18 shots this season. He's getting a chance in a bottom-six role with the Red Wings -- Perlini has averaged 12:30 per game since he was traded. Hopefully getting his first point will help the winger find his scoring touch again.

Perlini, whom the Red Wings acquired in a late-October trade with the Blackhawks, is minus-3 and still searching for his first point with the Red Wings through four contests.

A lack of continuity is a bit of a concern for Perlini, as he's moved on to his fourth team since the Coyotes took him 12th overall in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. The Wings desperately need to channel more offense into the bottom-six group, as no other Detroit skater has reached double digits in points aside from the top line of Dylan Larkin, Tyler Bertuzzi and Anthony Mantha. Perlini compiled 31 goals between his first two seasons with Arizona, so we know he has it in him if utilized properly.

Perlini was traded to the Red Wings in exchange for blueliner Alec Regula on Monday, Charlie Roumeliotis of NBC Sports Chicago reports.
