Brendan Mikkelson made his Tampa Bay debut on Tuesday night versus Vancouver. He was acquired from Calgary for Blair Jones last Friday and logged 9:51 of ice time against the Canucks, with two hits. Mikkelson has six assists and 40 penalty minutes in 87 NHL appearances during his career.

The Lightning intend to find playing opportunities for newly-acquired Brendan Mikkelson. He did not play Saturday as he had quite a travel day getting to the east coast from Abbottsford British Columbia. Mikkelson also needs to be acclimated to the Tampa system before he can play a meaningful role on the Bolts' blueline. "We would like to see him at some point, so we'll look for the opportunities," Lightning coach Guy Boucher said. "He's a big boy with speed ... it's something we desperately needed and I think it was good that (general manager Steve Yzerman) was able to make this trade." That said, he is likely a much better hockey player than fantasy one. Mikkelson has never been a big scorer, nor has he amassed significant penalty minutes despite his impressive size (6'2", 202 lbs).

The Calgary Flames have sent Brendan Mikkelson to Tampa Bay in exchange for Blair Jones. Mikkelson is a former second round pick who has been unable to stick with an NHL club. He's been relegated to the AHL this season, scoring three goals and 15 points in 33 games with the Abbotsford Heat.

Brendan Mikkelson has agreed to a one-year, two-way deal with the Calgary Flames. Mikkelson will earn $721,900 if he spends the 2011-12 season in the NHL. He had two assists in 24 games with the Anaheim Ducks and Calgary Flames last season.
