Brandon Saad registered a goal in Rockford's 5-2 win versus Charlotte on Saturday night.
Saad has top-flight ability. After a "down" OHL season two years ago in which he put up 55 points in 59 games, he recorded 76 in 44 contests last year. He got into four games with the Blackhawks last season, and now he's doing his best to make a case for the opening-day lineup. He has nine points in 14 AHL games. Jeremy Morin also had a goal and an assist in the victory.

Brandon Saad potted a goal in Rockford's loss to Grand Rapids on Friday night.
Saad is coming off a 34-goal, 76-point campaign in the OHL last year, so this is a winger with a lot of offensive talent. It was just his first goal in four games in the AHL, though. The 20-year-old has the makings of a top-line winger. He was Chicago's second-round pick from the 2011 draft. Jimmy Hayes had a goal and two assists in the win.

Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville likes what he's seen from Brandon Saad is prospect camp.
"He looks like he's ready to play," Quenneville said of Saad. "He can maybe not just make our team, he can do more than that." Saad has an outside chance of cracking one of the team's top two lines out of training camp. He's worth keeping a close eye on.

Brandon Saad admitted that slipping to the second round of the 2011 draft motivated him to be a better player.
"I'd be lying if I said it didn't do that (put a chip on his shoulder)," he said. "But, when you're slipping a little bit like I did, you realize you have work to do. It was disappointing, but I was still happy to be drafted. And then I went to work." He skated in two regular season games and two playoff contests with the Blackhawks in 2011-12, while putting up excellent numbers in junior hockey as well. He should be a player to watch at training camp and he has definite value in keeper leagues.

Brandon Saad has rejoined the Chicago Blackhawks and according to coach Joel Quenneville there's a "good chance" that he will suit up in Game 4 due to Marian Hossa being out with an undisclosed injury.
Saad made the NHL roster out of training camp and appeared in two games with the Hawks before heading back to the junior ranks. He registered 34 goals and 76 points in 44 games with the OHL's Saginaw Spirit. The Spirit were eliminated from the postseason in the second round by the London Knights, but Saad was excellent there as well with 17 points in 12 contests.

Brandon Saad has been returned to his junior club in Saginaw by Chicago.
The 2011 second-round pick made the Blackhawks with a strong training camp, but ended up back in the OHL after only two games. Saad didn't have a point over that span, but is worth keeping an eye on in the future.
