Rendulic signed a one-year contract with the Lahti Pelicans of The Liiga in Finland on Friday.

The Croatian Sensation appeared in 69 games for AHL Utica, a minor-league affiliate of the Canucks last season, tacking on 12 goals, 11 assists and 30 PIM. He also hit the ice for a single NHL contest when the parent club had several regulars quarantined with mumps.

Rendulic has good size (6-foot-2, 201 pounds) and scored 38 points in 68 games in the AHL last season, so he does have some offensive ability. That said, if Rendulic cracks the Vancouver lineup during this recall, it's likely that he'll fill a bottom-six role.

Rendulic didn't appear in a game for the Avalanche after fracturing his leg Jan. 15 against the Panthers, but his demotion to the minors suggests he might be able to see some action in Lake Erie's final three contests. The 23-year-old wasn't expected to play in the NHL this season, but a slew of injuries resulted in him making his NHL debut in December. He finished the campaign with a goal and an assist over his 11 games before suffering the injury.

Coach Patrick Roy said Tuesday that Rendulic (broken leg) isn't a candidate to return over the Avs' final three games of the season, Mike Chambers of the Denver Post reports. Rendulic was able to rejoin the Avs' morning skate Tuesday in a regular sweater, but it appears he's not quite far along enough in his recovery from the fractured leg to participate in games. He should be operating at full speed by the early stages of the offseason, however, which could keep him in contention for a lineup spot with the parent club during next fall's training camp.

The Avalanche appear to be eyeing a late-February return for Rendulic in a best-case scenario, but given the severe nature of the injury, it wouldn't be a surprise if the winger's timetable stretched a couple of extra weeks. Rendulic (leg) was placed on injured reserve Friday. After fracturing his leg Thursday night, Rendulic is set to miss well beyond the seven-day minimum for an IR stint. The Avs will free up a roster spot by moving him to their injured list.

Rendulic will be out indefinitely with a broken leg. The 22-year-old forward, whose injury was originally reported as a foot issue, recorded two points in 11 games for the big club prior to sustaining his leg injury Thursday.
