Ryan has cleared waivers, which means he's now an unrestricted free agent, Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reports.

EDGE Analysis

The final two years of Ryan's contract have been bought out by the Senators, paving the way for him to become an unrestricted free agent. The 33-year-old winger missed a bunch of time in 2019-20 while dealing with personal issues, but he eventually returned to Ottawa, picking up five goals and eight points in 24 games. If he's willing to take a discount to get third-line minutes with a contender, his production could rise somewhat substantially, but it remains to be seen if he'll ever be relevant from a fantasy standpoint again.

Ryan was placed on waivers by the Senators on Friday for the purpose of buying out his contract, Sportsnet's Chris Johnston reports.

EDGE Analysis

Ryan won the Masteron Trophy this season for perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to the game after missing time this season to deal with personal issues. The winger registered eight points in 24 games this year, including a hat trick in his first game back from his absence. Assuming he goes unclaimed, the 32-year-old New Jersey native will be free to sign with any NHL club and will likely cost significantly less than his current $7.25 million cap hit. For their part, the Senators will save approximately $3.7 million over the next two years before taking on a $1.8 million hit for the ensuing two seasons.

Ryan has scored four goals in the eight games following his comeback to perhaps cap off what was otherwise a difficult year with a positive note, should the regular season not be completed.

EDGE Analysis

Now that we know what Ryan's issue was, that puts his forgettable season in a different light. He will probably never be the player he once was, but he represents real opportunity in daily leagues at the start of 2020-21, as he could provide a lot of value for a cheap price if his demons are truly behind him.

Ryan netted a goal and served up three hits in Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the Kings.

EDGE Analysis

Ryan struck just 29 seconds into the first period to give the Senators a 1-0 lead. It was his first tally since his hat trick versus the Canucks on Feb. 27. The 32-year-old winger has five goals, three helpers, 43 shots and 41 hits through 24 contests this year. A top-line role alongside Brady Tkachuk has given Ryan a small boost in fantasy value, but he's still been mostly inconsistent.

Ryan scored a hat trick and added five PIM in Thursday's 5-2 win over Vancouver.

EDGE Analysis

Ryan came into this game with just one goal in 17 appearances this season, but the four-time 30-goal scorer found his touch in this one, needing just three shots to score three goals. He fought Vancouver's Chris Tanev at the end of the first period after scoring earlier in the opening frame, and Ryan added a pair of insurance goals in the final 2:08 to complete the hat trick, with his last tally coming into an empty net. While the rebuilding Senators' focus remains on proliferating young talent, this emotional and exhilarating effort from the 32-year-old winger gave Ottawa's downtrodden fans something to cheer about.

Ryan (personal) was minus-1 with four shots and two hits in Tuesday's 3-2 loss to Nashville.

EDGE Analysis

Ryan hadn't played since Nov. 16 after entering the NHL's player assistance program. The 32-year-old received 15:38 of ice time in his return to the team and tied for the team lead among forwards with his four shots. It's worth noting that only Brady Tkachuk received more power-play time than Ryan, who scored seven of his 15 goals a year ago with the man advantage.

Ryan (personal) is expected to return to the lineup Tuesday against the Predators, Dean Brown of the Senators Radio Network reports.

EDGE Analysis

Ryan entered the NHL's player assistance program in November and hasn't suited up for a game since, so he'll likely have some rust to shake off early on against Nashville. Nonetheless, it doesn't appear as though coach D.J. Smith is planning on easing the 32-year-old winger in, as Ryan's expected to skate on Ottawa's second line and second power-play unit Tuesday. The New Jersey native notched four points in 16 games prior to his lengthy absence.

Ryan (personal) is expected to return to the lineup Tuesday in Nashville, Wayne Scanlan of the Ottawa Citizen reports.

EDGE Analysis

Ryan was expected to return for Monday's contest in Columbus but it looks like it will be delayed one more day. The 32-year-old entered the player assistance program in November and hasn't suited up for a game since. Ryan has four points in 16 games this season.

Ryan (personal) will play in Monday's game versus the Blue Jackets, Mark Scheig of The Hockey Writers reports.

EDGE Analysis

Ryan entered the player assistance program in November, but he's ready to get back into game action after re-joining the team nearly three weeks ago. The 32-year-old is expected to flank Chris Tierney on the team's top line. The increased opportunities will put Ryan in a good position to make a fantasy impact, but it's worth noting he has just four points through 16 games this year.

Despite practicing with the club Wednesday, Ryan (not injury related) remains a couple of weeks away from getting a look in the Senators' lineup, Brent Wallace of TSN.ca reports.

EDGE Analysis

Given that Ryan hasn't taken part in a game since Nov. 16, it makes sense that he'll require some full practice sessions under his belt before being considered for action. The veteran is coming off a 42-point campaign during 2018-19, likely leaving him as a fringe fantasy player and a DFS lineup candidate when he's ready to rejoin the action.
