Mew Jersey GM Lou Lamoriello believes that Bobby Butler has "potential of being a top-six forward."
"There's no question he was goal scorer in college and certainly in the first (36) games in Ottawa his first year," Lamoriello said. "He showed he can score and then for whatever reason, and these things happen when there's a coaching change, he didn't get as much as ice time (only 11:28 per game after playing 15:25 per game in 2010-11)-not through anyone's fault. He also played in Binghamton for (former Devils assistant and AHL head coach) Kurt Klienendorst when they won the Calder Cup, so we know a lot about him there and also his college coach (Dick Umile) I had at Providence. So, we know enough about him." He'll get a shot at training camp to stick with the Devils, but he did sign a two-way deal, so starting the year in the minors is also a possibility.

The Devils have announced that Bobby Butler has signed a one-year, two-way deal with the team.
Butler played in 94 games over the past three seasons with Ottawa, where he 16 goals and 37 points. He registered six goals and 10 assists in 56 games last year despite taking 86 shots. With the Devils he could a land a spot as high as their second line or he could begin the 2012-13 campaign in the minors. The fresh start should motivate him to earn a roster spot though at training camp.

Bobby Butler has contributed five assists in three games since returning to Ottawa's lineup from the press box.
He has been productive alongside Jason Spezza and Milan Michalek after spending the previous three games as a healthy scratch. Butler has 14 points in 44 games in 2011-12, but he could be worthy of a flier if continues to skate on Ottawa's top line.

Bobby Butler will be back in Ottawa's lineup on Thursday night after sitting out the past three games as a healthy scratch.
He will transition from the team's outhouse to the penthouse versus Nashville because he will skate on the Senators' top line with Jason Spezza and Milan Michalek. Butler has struggled mightily offensively in 2011-12, scoring a mere five goals and four assists in 41 contests.
