ALL GOALIES ARE CONFIRMED UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED AT THE TIME OF PRINT
There is lots of action tonight with 12 games on the schedule. Boston goes up against Martin Brodeur and the New Jersey Devils who are in desperate need of a win. With Rask starting last night, Chad Johnson (LIKELY) will get the call. Desperate Devs pull this out....The Minnesota Wild travel to Long Island to go up against Anders Nilsson and the Islanders. Ilya Bryzgalov (LIKELY) is auditioning for a job next year, be it with the Wild or elsewhere. The Isles have been playing spirited hockey in the absence of superstar John Tavares and that should continue. Nilsson will be making his 10th start of the season. This could be a huge game fantasy-wise for scoring ....Kari Lehtonen (LIKELY) should return to the net for the Dallas Stars after missing a few games. Tim Thomas lost the past two after winning the first 2 while filling in for Lehtonen. Facing an upbeat Pittsburgh Penguins team is not a good formula for success. The Pens had a good practice with encouraging results from some injured players. Also the Penguins are looking to wash away the bad taste of a weekend sweep by the Flyers. Jeff Zatkoff gets the start after impressing the team in relief of Fleury, who had a terrible weekend against the Flyers....Speaking of the Flyers, Ray Emery will defend the net for Philadelphia as they ‘welcome' the Chicago Blackhawks to town. A big matchup as Emery will face his former teammates, and Antti Raanta, (LIKELY). The Hawks are a team that is trying to get back to their early season dominant-winning ways. Mason is coming off two huge back-to-back wins over the Pens, so go with the hot hand.....The Carolina Hurricanes are clinging to their playoff lives and go up against a team trying to solidify their place in the playoff standings. Look for the Hurricanes to go right back in net with Anton Khudobin (LIKELY) after his tough-luck 2-1 loss to Edmonton on Sunday. Ward is still trying to get back into top form after his injury stint and will face a tough opponent in Sergei Bobrovsky and the Columbus Blue Jackets. Jackets at home....James Reimer starts again for the Toronto Maple Leafs as Jonathan Bernier continues to recover from a LBI. He will be facing a very desperate team in the Detroit Red Wings, who are without their two star players. Toronto is finishing a 5-game road trip and may be looking ahead to getting home tomorrow against the Tampa Bay Lightning. A win tonight will make it ...

Eddie Lack will be back in net for the Vancouver Canucks after that disastrous third period against the NY Isles last time out. Expect a tighter game as the ‘Nucks head to Winnipeg to take on a reeling Jets team that has lost 3 in a row after going 5-2-0 and getting themselves close to playoff contention. Ondrej Pavelec should be back in goal for the Jets, but should be facing a more spirited Canucks team with something to prove... Antti Raanta gets the nod tonight for the Chicago Blackhawks as they travel to Colorado to take on Semyon Varlamov and the Avalanche. The Hawks will be looking to avenge their 4-2 loss on March 4th. A battle worth watching as the two clubs look to keep pace with the Western Conference leaders.....In the lone Eastern Conference contest, Boston heads to Montreal to take on Peter Budaj and the Canadiens. The Habs are back home after an unsuccessful 4-game West Coast swing as they are feeling the effects of not having their star goalie Carey Price who is still out with an LBI. Tuukka Rask (LIKELY) will lead the Bruins in what should be a rock'em, sock'em affair. Budaj has faltered lately as the fill-in Number 1 (going 2-3-1) after serving well as the backup (6-4-1) but the big, bad Bruins may prove to be too much for the road-weary Habs....You would think that a game against the Calgary Flames would be just what the doctor ordered for the 3-game losing streak Anaheim ducks, but Flames goalie Joni Ortio has been playing well in net despite losing the last two. Jonas Hiller (LIKELY) will be back in net for the Ducks but don't expect a cakewalk. The Flames play hard and to the end. Ducks will squeak by...

Goalie Start: Raanta starts on Wednesday. dailyfaceoff.com Wed 3/12/14 12:56 AM
Raanta has not been in between the pipes since January 28, he allowed four goals on 15 shots in 30 minutes of action that night. He has gone 12-2-3 with a 2.40 GAA and .904 SV% in his first season in the NHL. He draws a tough matchup vs. an Avalanche team who have won five of their last six while outscoring opponents 21-14.
THE GOALIE EDGE: 1/28/14 primepucks.com Tue 1/28/14 3:15 PM
The Maple Leafs have not fared well against Tampa Bay this season, allowing 12 goals over their last two meetings. The struggles should also continue on offense as Lightning goalie Ben Bishop is near the top in all three key statistical categories- 26 wins(3rd), .934 SP(1st), and 1.96 GAA(3rd). With the return of superstar Steven Stamkos looming, look for Bishop to keep the ‘Bolts rolling... Coming off a huge 5-0 win over Montreal, Braden Holtby can reclaim the no.1 goalie job in Washington with a few more quality starts. A great opportunity awaits in Buffalo as Jhonas Enroth will starting in place of Ryan Miller in the second half of a back-to-back set. After being shut out by Pittsburgh, the Sabres will be hoping that the Caps haven't re-discovered their "mojo". Am loving Holtby in this one.. The Winnipeg Jets are streaking under Paul Maurice as tonight's starting goalie Ondrej Pavelec has won 5 of his last 6 games. Meanwhile, Nashville will turn the net to Carter Hutton who has struggled on the road with a 6-6-1 record, a 3.15 GAA, and a .894 SP. Go with the "hot hand" in this matchup, as Pavelec makes for a great spot-start.. Our sleeper alert points to Columbus, where Curtis McElhinney will be starting against an Ottawa team who have lost 4 of the last five. Craig Anderson hasn't exactly provided the Senators with sparkling goaltending in January, going 4-1-3 with a 2.70 GAA and a .913 SP. The Jackets will prevail here..Our own "Razor" loves Chicago's Antti Raanta in Calgary and the "Romer" will side with Jonas Hiller for Anaheim against the Wild.

There are ten games on the schedule in the NHL tonight. Carolina and Buffalo start things off with a game in Buffalo. Anton Khudobin is (likely) for the Huricanes, and he has played well this year with an 8-3 record and a 2.05 goals against. Jhonas Enroth has been (confirmed) for the Sabres, and he has had a tough season with only 1 win. We like Carolina....Philadelphia goes against the Blue Jackets in Columbus. With Steve Mason playing last night, Ray Emery is (confirmed) for the Flyers . Emery has struggled as the backup with only a .901 save percentage. Sergei Bobrovsky has been (confirmed) for Columbus, and no one is hotter than him with 6 straight wins. Go with the hot guy....The Blues are at the Garden to play the Rangers. Jaroslav Halak has been (confirmed) for St. Louis. He appears to have taken back the starting job. Henrik Lundqvist has been (confirmed) for New York, and he has been hot as well with 5 wins in 6 games. Go with the King in what should be a tough match....The Senators are at Tamba Bay, and Craig Anderson has been (confirmed) for Ottawa. He had been hot with a 5 game winning streak, but has lost 3 of his last 5. Ben Bishop, who has been the goalie story of the year, is (confirmed) for the Lightning. He has cooled a bit going only 4-3 in his last 7, but we like him in this game....With Marc-Andre Fleury playing last night, Jeff Zatkoff is (confirmed) for the Penguins against the Islanders. He has only played in 10 games, but he has won 4 of 5. Kevin Poulin is (confirmed) to be in goal for New York. His overall numbers are bad, but he has won 6 of 8 in January. Have to go with Pittsburgh though....Chicago is at Minnesota, and Antti Raanta is (likely) in goal for the Blackhawks. Raanta has played in only 2 games in January, but he won them both. Minnesota will surely start Darcy Kuemper (likely) as Josh Harding and Niklas Backstrom are both out. Kuemper is 3-2 in his last 5 games. Go wth Chicago and Raanta....Toronto is at Dallas, ad it looks like Jonathan Bernier (confirmed)is slowly grabbing the starting job for the Maple Leafs. He has been gettng more ice time lately, and he has 4 straight wins. Kari Lehtonen is (confirmed) for the Stars as he has been struggling lately going 2-8 in his last 10 games. Go with Bernier on this one....The Kings are at Anaheim and will (likely) start Jonathan Quick in goal. Quick has been only 4-4 since returning from injury, but he does have a .938 save percentage for those games. ...
