THE GOALIE EDGE: 3/18/2014 primepucks.com Tue 3/18/14 2:03 PM

ALL GOALIES ARE CONFIRMED UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED AT THE TIME OF PRINT There is lots of action tonight with 12 games on the schedule. Boston goes up against Martin Brodeur and the New Jersey Devils who are in desperate need of a win. With Rask starting last night, Chad Johnson (LIKELY) will get the call. Desperate Devs pull this out....The Minnesota Wild travel to Long Island to go up against Anders Nilsson and the Islanders. Ilya Bryzgalov (LIKELY) is auditioning for a job next year, be it with the Wild or elsewhere. The Isles have been playing spirited hockey in the absence of superstar John Tavares and that should continue.  Nilsson will be making his 10th start of the season. This could be a huge game fantasy-wise for scoring ....Kari Lehtonen (LIKELY) should return to the net for the Dallas Stars after missing a few games. Tim Thomas lost the past two after winning the first 2 while filling in for Lehtonen.  Facing an upbeat Pittsburgh Penguins team is not a good formula for success.  The Pens had a good practice with encouraging results from some injured players. Also the Penguins are looking to wash away the bad taste of a weekend sweep by the Flyers.  Jeff Zatkoff gets the start after impressing the team in relief of Fleury, who had a terrible weekend against the Flyers....Speaking of the Flyers, Ray Emery will defend the net for Philadelphia as they ‘welcome' the Chicago Blackhawks to town. A big matchup as Emery will face his former teammates, and Antti Raanta, (LIKELY). The Hawks are a team that is trying to get back to their early season dominant-winning ways.  Mason is coming off two huge back-to-back wins over the Pens, so go with the hot hand.....The Carolina Hurricanes are clinging to their playoff lives and go up against a team trying to solidify their place in the playoff standings. Look for the Hurricanes to go right back in net with Anton Khudobin (LIKELY) after his tough-luck 2-1 loss to Edmonton on Sunday. Ward is still trying to get back into top form after his injury stint and will face a tough opponent in Sergei Bobrovsky and the Columbus Blue Jackets. Jackets at home....James Reimer starts again for the Toronto Maple Leafs as Jonathan Bernier continues to recover from a LBI. He will be facing a very desperate team in the Detroit Red Wings, who are without their two star players.  Toronto is finishing a 5-game road trip and may be looking ahead to getting home tomorrow against the Tampa Bay Lightning.  A win tonight will make it a successful road trip.  Detroit starter Jimmy Howard has been maddeningly inconsistent this year. Go with the Leafs....Carey Price and the Montreal Canadiens are looking to avenge a 4-1 loss to Jean-Sebastien Giguere and the Colorado Avalanche in November. Also, Patrick Roy returns to Montreal, now as a Head Coach.  With Varlamov starting the last five and a game tomorrow night in Winnipeg, Giguere gets the nod. Price should have shaken the rust off from his short stint on IR and be ready to go in tonight's tilt.  The Habs need Price if they are to go far in the playoffs, and tonight is a good test....Henrik Lundqvist and the New York Rangers head to Ottawa to take on Robin Lehner and the Senators. Lundqvist is coming off a tough-luck 1-0 loss to the San Jose Sharks while Lehner has lost 2 straight filling in for an injured Craig Anderson.  Ottawa always seem to give the Rangers fits and with their playoff lives hanging in the balance, this is a tough one to call....Buffalo has been on a downward spiral with a 3-7-0 record in their last 10.  The Sabres are looking for answers for next season while their opponent, the Calgary Flames, are getting some good answers about their own team. Nathan Lieuwen will get the call as Enroth and Neuvirth are nursing injuries. This will be Lieuwen's first NHL Start as he came on in relief of Enroth in the last game, making all 10 saves in just over a period of work. The Flames will go with who will probably be their number 1 goaltender next season in Joni Ortio. Ortio has gone 3-4-0 in his first 7 NHL starts with a 2.33 GAA and a .904 SP.  Not great numbers.  If the Sabres can find a way to score more than 2 goals, they just may break their 6 game losing streak....Edmonton will host the Nashville Predators who have their starter Pekka Rinne rounding into form.  A win for Nashville will keep their playoff hopes alive while Edmonton needs to build chemistry for next year.  Viktor Fasth has been spectacular since coming over from Anaheim and will be making his third start for the Oil. This will be a tightly contested affair.  Edge to the Preds....Jaroslav Halak (LIKELY) is making his sixth straight start for the Washington Capitals and goes up against Jonas Hiller and the Anaheim Ducks tonight. Hiller has won once in his last 4 starts and this may be a good time to catch the Ducks.  Both teams are trying to establish a consistency to their game and with the Caps going against Former Head Coach Bruce Boudreau; this could be a feisty game....San Jose returns home to face the Florida Panthers who starting a 4-game road trip.  Antti Niemi and the Sharks are coming off a 1-0 win over the Rangers while Roberto Luongo (LIKELY) is coming off a tough 4-3 shootout loss to his former team, the Vancouver Canucks. This feels like a trap game if I ever smelled one.  LOL.
