Antti Niemi stopped 38 of 40 Los Angeles shots in San Jose's 3-2 shootout victory Wednesday night. Niemi improved his record to 13-3-5 with a 2.15 GAA and .920 save percentage. He is going be a Vezina Trophy candidate if he continues to play like this.

Goaltender Antti Niemi did not have to do very much as the visiting New Jersey Devils could muster up only 19 shots on the San Jose netminder during the a 2-1 victory for the Sharks Saturday night. Niemi is now 12-3-5 on the season.

Goaltender Antti Niemi, usually reliable, could stop only 22 shots as he and the visiting San Jose Sharks took a 5-1 rout from the Blackhawks in Chicago Sunday night. Niemi, formerly a Chicago goalie, is 5-6-1 against the Hawks and has lost four in a row against them.

Since leaving Chicago, he is 5-5-1 with a 2.84 GAA and a .915 save percentage against the Blackhawks, losing all three games last season.

Goalie Antti Niemi had a night to remember in Winnipeg, making 42 saves in regulation and overtime, but wound up on the losing side of a 5-4 shootout decision against the Jets. Niemi is a workhorse. He has started 16 of the Sharks' 17 games this season. After this one, he deserves a rest.

Sharks coach Todd McLellan doesn't think Antti Niemi is tired. "Nope. Nope. Not at all," McLellan said. "The interesting part about Nemo is the most rest he's had, has been in the last 10 days, and he hasn't been as sharp. As soon as Alex [Stalock] played (on Oct. 27 in Ottawa), Nemo had a couple days off, [we] come back into LA, not as sharp. We haven't been playing every second day, so I think the exact opposite of what you're suggesting. Exact opposite." Niemi has still started in 15 of the Sharks' 16 games this season. He has allowed four goals in three of his last four starts.

Niemi was pulled for backup Alex Stalock at 5:22 of the second period with Vancouver leading 4-2. Stalock stopped all 21 shots he faced. Niemi has allowed 14 goals on 102 shots over his past four games. Niemi still has a good 9-2-4 record with 2.10 goals against average and .913 save percentage.
