Niemi stopped 19 of 20 shots en route to his sixth win of the season Saturday against the Islanders. Niemi was in goal for the Sharks' fourth consecutive game and has been spectacular in each outing. He's now won three of those contests and produced a save percentage above .930 in each turn, likely spelling an end to the Sharks' early-season goalie controversy in the process. The presence of the capable Alex Stalock probably won't allow Niemi to finish among the league's top netminders in terms of volume of starts, but he still seems primed to get the bulk of the nods for the Sharks in the games to come.

Niemi will be in the net Saturday against the Islanders, Kevin Kurz of CSNBayArea.com reports. It will mark the fourth start in a row for Niemi, who has been stellar for the Sharks with save percentages above .930 in each of his last three turns. With every successive impressive outing, Niemi is only creating further distance between himself and Alex Stalock in their competition for the No. 1 goalie gig.

Niemi stopped 43 of 46 shots through regulation and overtime Thursday against the Wild, but was bested in the shootout, leaving him with a 4-3 loss. It's never nice to lose, but if you must, you may as well post a .935 save percentage. Niemi's posted a .935 or better in three consecutive starts, which will certainly help in his quest to fend off Alex Stalock for primary goaltending duties.

Niemi will be in the net Thursday against the Wild, Kevin Kurz of CSNBayArea.com reports. After impressive back-to-back showings in wins over the Ducks and Avalanche, Niemi has begun to create some separation from Alex Stalock in the goalie timeshare. He'll make his third consecutive start Thursday and could further entrench himself as the Sharks' No. 1 goalie if he's able to outplay the Wild's Darcy Kuemper, who has been one of the league's best netminders over the season's first month.

Niemi will be between the pipes for Tuesday's game against the Avalanche, CSN's Kevin Kurz reports. Niemi has been a bit hit-or-miss this season, giving up two goals or fewer three times, and four goals or more three other times. There's a good chance he will be a hit Tuesday facing a Colorado squad that has scored two goals or fewer in six of its nine games this season.

Niemi stopped 33 of 34 shots in Sunday's win over Anaheim. Niemi was outstanding in the win, snapping a two-game losing skid in the process. He is now 4-2-0 on the season with a .915 save percentage and 2.80 GAA. After that great outing Sunday, fantasy owners shouldn't worry about backup Alex Stalock potentially stealing his job. At least for the time being, Niemi is the No.1 in San Jose.

Niemi will start Sunday's game against the Ducks, Bay Area News Group reports. Niemi is reeling from allowing five goals in his last appearances. However, after Alex Stalock failed to win Saturday's matchup, Niemi will get the opportunity to start Sunday versus Anaheim.

Niemi was tagged for five goals on 28 shots in Thursday's loss to the Jackets. An ugly outing for Niemi, who was staked to a 2-0 lead at the first intermission, only to give up three unanswered goals in the second period, then was bailed out by two more goals in the third period to give the Sharks a 4-3 lead... which he then surrendered in the latter half of the period, capped by Mark Letestu's goal with 21 seconds remaining. Niemi's now been lit up for 16 goals in his last four starts. With the offense-starved Sabres coming up next on the schedule (Saturday), Niemi's fantasy owners will have to hope that the Sharks keep him in the lineup rather than going to Alex Stalock.

Niemi will be between the pipes for the Sharks on Thursday against Columbus, according to Kevin Kurz of CSN Bay Area. Niemi is 3-1 this season with a save percentage of .920 and a goals against average of 2.70. He's playing well and battling hard to really lock down that starting position over Alex Stalock.

Niemi's season-opening winning streak ended at three games Tuesday when he allowed four goals on 32 shots in a loss to the Bruins. The Sharks have lost three out of four, and neither Alex Stalock nor Niemi has excelled sufficiently to pull away from the other. They'll continue to split starts until one can get hot; one gets the feeling that if Niemi had delivered the goods Tuesday, he would have had an opportunity to win much more playing time going forward. But alas, it was not to be.
