He managed to grab a loss against Colorado before the break, allowing three goals on just 15 shots. He bounced back in his next game and stopped 23 of 24. It's tough to tell which Niemi will show up on any given night.

Niemi draws a Flames team Monday that has also struggled lately, dropping five of the past seven contests. Niemi faced Calgary once this season, surrendering three goals on 32 shots in a Dec. 1 overtime loss.

Niemi was the first goalie off the ice at morning skate Monday and should be in line to start the evening's contest against the Flames.

Niemi struggled to keep pucks out of the net Saturday despite facing just 15 shots, allowing three goals on limited opportunities to take his ninth loss of the season. Assuming he starts as expected, the veteran will look for a better outing against a Flames club that's been a bit hit-or-miss offensively as of late.

The Finnish goaltender hasn't been so great of late, surrounding at least three goals in three of his last five starts. After a strong outing Tuesday, expect Niemi to continue to get the nod over a struggling Kari Lehtonen.

Niemi will be in the crease as Thursday's home starter against the Oilers.

Niemi has sputtered in a major way, yielding 15 goals over the last four starts with two regulation losses and another pair of overtime defeats. However, his recent skid was caused by teams that have winning records, so perhaps a date with the 19-24-5 Oilers will be enough to get him back on track. One note of caution is that Oilers bench boss Todd McLellan is quite familiar with Niemi's tendencies having coached him for five seasons between 2010-15, when they were both in San Jose.
