We advise against using Niemi in daily formats Saturday afternoon. Anything can happen in the game of hockey, but the Flyers are on a 10-game winning streak and the Stars are currently running the 29th-ranked defense, contributing to Niemi's ugly 2.98 GAA through 16 games this season.

Niemi turned in a terrific start against the Rangers on Thursday, stopping 28 of 29 shots, but his team got shut out by Henrik Lundqvist.

That marks just the fourth regulation loss in 16 appearances for Niemi, but that doesn't mean the Finnish netminder has typically been this good -- his 2.97 GAA and .909 save percentage are damaging numbers in most fantasy formats. He also just ceded the net to Kari Lehtonen for six straight games, but the two goalies often trade off strings of starts.

Niemi will patrol the crease for Thursday's showdown against the Rangers.

Coach Lindy Ruff has seemingly been riding the hot hand at the goalie position this season and Niemi's seems to be at least warm for the moment -- he's coming off a superb 34-save win against the Ducks on Tuesday night. However, the Rangers' offense is just a bit more impressive than the Ducks', as the latter is averaging 2.73 goals per game while the former is averaging 3.42. Niemi will need to be on top of his game once again to get the win against a well-rested Henrik Lundqvist on Thursday.

Niemi saved 34 of 36 shots during Tuesday's win against Anaheim.

This was Niemi's first start in five games after allowing five goals to Pittsburgh on Dec. 1. The veteran goalie entered Tuesday's game with a disappointing .902 save percentage and 3.20 GAA, so his lack of starts shouldn't be surprising. Still, Niemi is worth owning in the majority of seasonal leagues, and he can reward if you're selective with who you start him against. After all, since joining Dallas, he's 21-6-3 at home.

Dallas remains dead last in the league at 3.20 goals allowed per contest, despite Kari Lehtonen manufacturing a sturdy .921 save mark over the last five. But to avoid burning him out, the Stars will turn to Niemi -- 5-3-3, 3.20 GAA -- for this next one. Despite that hideous peripheral figure, there should at least be some confidence in the fact that the Finn has managed a 2.29 GAA on home rinks over the course of his career.

The 33-year-old backstop will have no easy task blocking pucks Thursday as he'll face a Penguins' lineup that ranks eighth in the NHL in finding the back of the net (2.91 GF/GP).

While Niemi shouldn't be counted on outside of favorable matchups, if you're selective with his opponents, there is value in owning him.
