Nestrasil will continue his career in Europe after Carolina chose not to extend him a qualifying offer and he failed to receive an offer from another club. The 26-year-old center played his most recent NHL game on Jan. 3 and was limited to 19 outings at the top level last season.

Nestrasil saw his role decline this past year, going from 55 games played during the 2015 campaign, to just 19 during the 2016 season. It appears he largely fell out of favor in Carolina, which makes it unsurprising that he failed to receive a qualifying offer. He'll look to latch on with a team in need of depth come the start of free agency on July 1.

Nestrasil was returned to AHL Charlotte on Friday.

There have been obvious signs that Nestrasil is falling out of favor in Raleigh. He'd been waived in early January -- only to stick around upon clearing -- and then rode the bench for 22 games before returning to action for a mere 9:51 of ice time in Wednesday's overtime loss to the Lightning. Until he finds himself in a more favorable situation, you can safely ignore Nestrasil in all fantasy formats.

Nestrasil previously appeared in 18 NHL contests in which he logged five points, 25 shots on goals, and 10 hits. With Brock McGinn (upper body) and Jeff Skinner (upper body) still dealing with injuries, Nestrasil will provide some much needed depth, even if he doesn't crack the lineup.

The center has only played in two games since Dec. 13, a healthy scratch in all of those games, so Carolina is looking to free up a roster space. If he clears waivers, he will report to AHL Charlotte.

Nestrasil has played in only 16 games this season with five points to show for it, and is frequently relegated to the bench whenever the Hurricanes have 16 healthy forwards, which is currently the case. As such, he currently has a fantasy value of about zero, and should not be on your roster.

Nestasil was a healthy scratch Saturday against the Capitals.

This should come as no surprise to anyone who had been keeping an eye on Nestrasil's ice time -- he skated a season-low 7:24 Thursday against the Ducks. With just two points in eight games along with a minus-4 rating, Nestrasil has not endeared himself to the Hurricanes' coaching staff this season; as such, he should not be on anyone's fantasy roster right now.

Nestrasil returned to the lineup Tuesday against the Red Wings and recorded his first point of the season - an assist - after missing the previous three games as a healthy scratch.

While it was nice to see Nestrasil finally hit the scoresheet, he also saw ice time of just 9:40 as part of the Canes' fourth line. Nestrasil's role on the team has been diminished this season following the offseason acquisition of scoring winger Teuvo Teravainen and the arrival of rookie Sebastian Aho from the Finnish Elite League. After scoring a career-high 23 points in 55 games last season, it doesn't look like Nestrasil will come anywhere close to those totals this year, given his current fourth-line status. Look for replacements immediately.

Nastrasil fractured his vertebra last February, prematurely ending what was supposed to be his first full campaign with the Hurricanes. The Czech winger could work on getting tougher as he shies away from physicality despite having a 6-foot-3, 200-pound frame. However, last season, he showed flashes of offensive potential by producing nine goals and 23 helpers in 55 games.

Nestrasil was enjoying a very good campaign until a fractured vertebra in February cut his season short. Nestrasil started out the season in a bottom-six role before discovering some chemistry with Jordan Staal and Joakim Nordstrom. The trio went on to form a very solid second line, and Nestrasil's ice time spiked as a result -- as much as 18-20 minutes per night in mid-January. We expect a healthy Nestrasil to be back competing for a similar role when training camps open in September.
