Semin scored his first goal with Montreal in Tuesday's win against the Blues.
EDGE Analysis
Semin picked the top right corner of the net on Jake Allen after a feed from Alex Galchenyuk. The former 40-goal scorer still has a wicked shot and has found some chemistry on a line with Galchenyuk and Lars Eller. Perhaps being thrust back into a top six role is exactly what Semin needs to contribute regularly on offense.

Semin picked up two helpers Saturday against the Bruins.
EDGE Analysis
He seems to have real chemistry with Lars Eller and Alex Galchenyuk, and that means the Habs (and fantasy owners) could have themselves an absolute steal. Semin's talent is undeniable, but his dedication has been questioned for years. We're not ready to declare Montreal a fit for him, but we're open to that option.

Semin (foot) returned to practice Tuesday, Eric Engels of Sportsnet.ca reports.
EDGE Analysis
A sore foot sidelined Semin during Monday's session, but the injury was never viewed as serious. Semin's return to the ice Tuesday illustrates as much, and now the winger will look to secure a prominent role in the Habs' attack during training camp. He's been deployed on the second line with Lars Eller and Alex Galchenyuk during early practices, an arrangement that could allow Semin to reemerge as a 20-goal scorer following a dismal campaign in Carolina.

Free-agent left wing Alexander Semin agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Montreal Canadiens on Friday. Semin, who totaled just 19 points in 57 games for the Carolina Hurricanes last season, reached a buyout agreement last month that will pay him $14 million over six years. The 31-year-old's time in Carolina was turbulent, as he struggled with injuries and was publicly criticized by coach Bill Peters for inconsistent effort. “[Semin’s] career can only go up from here,” agent Mark Gandler said. “He is still young. His buyout was under unique circumstances and the (Hurricanes) coach did not understand Sasha’s game.” Semin will have a great opportunity to salvage his career in Montreal, where he could find himself on the top line alongside Tomas Plekanic and Max Pacioretty, or taking on a larger offensive role on the team's second line.

Semin was placed on unconditional waivers Tuesday, and the Hurricanes are expected to buy out his contract, NHL.com reports. Semin will be subject to waivers, and if he clears he'll be bought out by the team Wednesday afternoon. The 31-year-old has three years remaining on the five-year, $35 million extension he inked with Carolina in March of 2013. Semin tallied only six goals and 13 assists in 57 games this past season.

Semin registered a goal on one of his game-high eight shots on net in Monday's 4-3 loss to the Sabres. The Hurricanes blitzed the net all night, with Semin providing eight of the 52 shots the team put on Sabres goalie Anders Lindback. Active games like Monday's show what the 31-year-old is still capable of, but unfortunately, performances like this have not occurred nearly enough. With 19 points, a minus-10 rating, and several healthy scratches on his ledger, Semin might be the biggest fantasy bust this season.

Semin (hamstring) is slated to play Sunday against the Bruins, Michael Smith of the Hurricanes' official site reports. With Semin, who missed Saturday's game, back in the lineup, Brad Malone looks like the odd man out for Carolina up front on Sunday.

Semin is expected to miss Saturday's game against the Devils due to a hamstring injury, Chantel McCabe of FOX Sports Florida reports. Semin missed the Hurricanes' morning skate Saturday to receive further evaluation on the injury, so it appears safe to count him out for at least one game. Patrick Dwyer is expected to reenter the lineup in Semin's stead.
