Newhook will be promoted to Colorado's active roster and make his NHL debut Wednesday versus San Jose, NHL.com's Rick Sadowski reports.
EDGE Analysis
At this point it isn't clear what line Newhook will skate on Wednesday, but it wouldn't be surprising to see him slot into a top-six role for his NHL debut. The 16th overall pick from the 2019 NHL Entry Draft has racked up five goals and nine points through eight AHL appearances this season.

Colorado head coach Jared Bednar said he hasn't determined what Newhook's role will be when takes the ice for the Avalanche, Adrian Dater of Colorado Hockey Now reports.
EDGE Analysis
The coach wasn't sure if Newhook will line up at center or wing, but Bednar did confirm he'll play on both special-team units. The Avs added Newhook to the taxi squad ahead of a five-game road trip that began Monday night in San Jose. He was held out of Monday's game, because the coaching staff wanted to go over more video and review team systems. The next opportunity to play comes Wednesday against San Jose.

Newhook was promoted to Colorado's taxi squad Sunday, Peter Baugh of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 16th overall selection from the 2019 draft earned this promotion with a strong start to his AHL tenure, producing at a point-per-game pace through seven minor-league contests. Newhook could make his NHL debut as soon as Monday in San Jose. He'll probably take some time to adjust to the NHL game, but Newhook's draft pedigree and development thus far make him a player worth targeting in keeper formats.

EDGE Analysis
Newhook had to wait two weeks before making his debut for the Eagles on Tuesday. A day later, the 2019 first-round pick scored his first professional goal -- on the power play -- snapping a wrister past Bakersfield goalie Stuart Skinner. While at Boston College, Newhook amassed 58 points over 46 games and earned NCAA Rookie of the Year honors in 2019-20.

Newhook signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Avalanche on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
The 16th overall pick in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, Newhook was outstanding over the past two seasons at Boston College. With 42 points over 34 games as a freshman, Newhook earned NCAA Rookie of the Year honors. He followed that up with 16 points over 12 games this season. While Newhook could be ready for the NHL now, the Avalanche have depth up the middle and may opt to put him into a top-six role with AHL Colorado.

The 2019 first-round pick, who racked up 19 goals and 42 points in 34 games with Boston College last season, plans to return to BC for his sophomore year.

Newhook (shoulder) won't be in the lineup for Friday's quarterfinal matchup versus the Czech Republic, The Athletic's Corey Pronman reports.
EDGE Analysis
Newhook exited Thursday's 4-1 win over Finland with a shoulder injury and evidently hasn't recovered enough to suit up for Friday's contest. If Canada is able to advance past the Czech Republic, Newhook should have a good chance of returning to action Monday for the semifinals. The 2019 first-round pick has picked up two goals and three helpers through four games at the World Junior Championship.

Newhook indicated last week in an interview with Ryan S. Clark of The Athletic that he expects to return to Boston College for the 2020-21 season rather than signing with the Avalanche. "I think the development part has been great and I learned a lot this year," Newhook said. "I have developed into a more complete player and a more dynamic player. I think for me, the plan has not changed as of now...The Avs are a really strong team and they have a lot of depth. I am in a good spot at BC, and to be in a good spot like this and have this position of not being rushed and not being forced out of a good spot makes my situation that much better."
EDGE Analysis
After the Avs tabbed him with the 16th overall pick in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, Newhook made that selection look even better following a dazzling debut season at Boston College. Before the college season concluded earlier this month due to the coronavirus pandemic, Newhook was well on his way to turning in one of the best freshman campaigns in the Eagles history. The Hockey East Rookie of the Year finished seventh in the nation in points (42), 11th in goals (19) and third in plus/minus rating (plus-28).
