Fox did not play a single shift in Team USA's 3-0 loss to Canada at the 2019 IIHF World Championship on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
The addition of Columbus rearguard Zach Werenski to the Team USA defensive group dropped Fox to the role of the club's seventh defender and sent Ottawa's Christian Wolanin to the press box. Don't expect much to change for Thursday's quarterfinal against a Russian team featuring countless NHL All-Stars. Fox had one assist in his first six games prior to Wednesday.

Fox agreed to terms on an entry-level contract with the Rangers on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
As soon as Fox was acquired by the Rangers via trade from the Hurricanes, the expectation was that the blueliner would be signing his ELC with the club shortly. With the deal finalized, the New York native will get every opportunity to secure a spot on the 23-man roster in training camp this fall.

Fox's rights were traded by the Hurricanes to the Rangers in exchange for a 2019 second-round pick and conditional 2020 third-round selection, Bob McKenzie of TSN reports.
EDGE Analysis
Fox is set to sign an entry-level deal with New York, which was likely a condition of the trade after the blueliner previously told Carolina he wasn't going to sign with the club and was headed for free agency this summer. The youngster should get a shot at the 23-man roster during training camp, especially if he can produce at the same level as he did at Harvard (116 points in 97 games).

Hurricanes owner Tom Dundon said Monday that the organization would explore trading Fox after the defenseman elected not to sign an entry-level contract with the franchise, Chip Alexander of The Raleigh News & Observer reports. "We'll try to trade [Fox]," Dundon said. "I think we'll do OK. We'll see."
EDGE Analysis
Nabbed with the 66th overall pick by the Flames in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, Fox was dealt to the Hurricanes over the past summer in the trade that sent Elias Lindholm and Noah Hanifin back to Calgary. After Fox recently capped off a stellar junior campaign at Harvard in which he was a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award, the Hurricanes tried to lure him to turn pro, but he wasn't receptive to Carolina's overtures. If Fox proceeds with his threat to return to Harvard for his senior season, he would become a free agent in the summer of 2020, so the Hurricanes have plenty of motivation to move him rather than risk losing him for nothing a year from now.

Fox has decided not to sign with Carolina and will instead return to Harvard University for his senior season , Jeff Cox of the New England Hockey Journal reports.
EDGE Analysis
And there is the news that all Carolina fans were dreading. Fox, a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award as college hockey's top player, is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent next summer. He has nothing left to prove at the collegiate level after posting 48 points in 32 games this season for the Crimson and his decision to return to school strongly implies that he will be joining a different organization next summer. Fox, who grew up on Long Island, was originally a third-round pick of Calgary in 2016. Expect the Rangers to be heavily involved in his free agent proceedings in the summer of 2020.

Fox was trade to the Hurricanes in a five-player deal Saturday, reports Bob McKenzie of TSN.ca.
EDGE Analysis
Fox heads east with Dougie Hamilton and Micheal Ferland, while Elias Lindholm and Noah Hanifin go to Calgary. Fox is a high-end defensive prospect currently playing with Harvard. His hockey IQ matches his book smarts and he brings elite vision and playmaking to the ice, along with good speed.

Fox picked up a hat trick and added an assist in Harvard's 5-0 win over St. Lawrence University on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Fox should be playing on the United States Olympic team. He somehow hadn't scored a goal all season prior to Friday night, but Fox now has seven points in his last two games and is up to 19 points in 22 contests on the year. Remarkably calm and composed with the puck for such a young kid, Fox will turn 20 years of age tomorrow. The Flames are going to do everything in their power to try to get Fox to leave turn pro after Harvard's season comes to an end. If he is comfortable with the idea of playing in Calgary, there is a better than even chance that Fox will play in the NHL in 2018-19.
