Week 16 - Do or Die! fantasysharks.com Thu 12/19/13 6:30 AM1 Comment

Although Week 15 was packed with amazing performances from many key fantasy studs, Baltimore kicker Justin Tucker has topped the headlines. His six field goals, including a 61-yard go-ahead blast in the fourth quarter, sealed the late comeback victory for Baltimore, and more importantly, kept their playoff hopes alive. In his postgame interview, his reference to helping both his "real team" and his fantasy football team win made the event even more memorable for fantasy football fans. Whether you are in a battle for the fantasy Super Bowl this week or just trying to close the season on a positive note, take a dive with me as we look into Week 16. Quarterback Andy Dalton has been very frustrating this year for fantasy owners. As soon as it appears that Dalton has reached the next level as he showed from Weeks 6-8, he posted a complete dud in Week 9. With Cincinnati battling for playoff seeding, he should be productive in Week 16 against Minnesota. Minnesota has allowed the second-most points to opposing quarterbacks, including three passing touchdowns in each of the last two weeks. Cincinnati's quarterback also has performed considerably better at home with a quarterback rating almost 20 points higher than on the road this season. Week 16 forecast: 250 passing yards, 2 TD Running Back Not much has worked for the Oakland Raiders this year. However, their rushing attack has been one of the few bright spots. As usual, Darren McFadden has missed more games than he has started, but Rashad Jennings and Marcel Reece have filled in admirably. Jennings returned from his own injury and was dynamic against a tough Kansas City line. Jennings ran for 91 yards with two scores and averaged 4.0 yards per carry. Jennings will shine again in Week 16 against an average San Diego defense and should receive the bulk of carries. Week 16 forecast: 100 total yards, TD Wide Receiver Mike Wallace may be the more talented Miami wide receiver, but also lacks consistency. If you are looking to fill your second or third wide receiver slot, don't forget about Brian Hartline. Hartline has averaged 9½ targets with at least five catches per game over his last six contests. With a matchup against the Buffalo defense that allows the fourth-most points to opposing wide receivers, Hartline should reward fantasy owners this weekend. Don't forget that he hauled in six passes earlier this year against Buffalo's weak secondary. Week 16 forecast: 80 receiving ...

In the Spotlight - Week 7 In Review fantasysharks.com Mon 10/21/13 8:00 AM

Week 7 Fantasy Headlines: Rob Gronkowski Makes 2013 Debut; Compiles 8/114/0 Line Matt Ryan Racks Up 273 Yards & 3 TDs Without Roddy White Peyton Manning Throws for 386 Yards & 2 TDs But Broncos Lose A. Rodgers Throws for 260 Yards & 3 TDs W/out Cobb or J. Jones Another 100-Yard, 2 TD Game for Vincent Jackson Russell Wilson Tosses 3 TD Passes To Help Down the Cardinals Jamaal Charles Scores In Seventh Straight Game; Chiefs 7-0 The Andy-Dalton-to-A.J.-Green Connection Sizzles Again Lions Lose Despite 155 Yards & 2 TDs from Megatron Matt Forte Hits Pay Dirt Three Times, But Chicago Still Loses "Shanahanigans" in D.C. -- Roy Helu Scores Three Times Jordan Reed Breaks Out with 9 Grabs for 134 Yards & 1 TD Game Summaries & Fantasy Commentary: Bye week: New Orleans Saints & Oakland Raiders Thursday Night Game: SEATTLE SEAHAWKS 34 (6-1) ARIZONA CARDINALS 22 (3-4) Final Fantasy Focus -- Seattle Seahawks: Russell Wilson racked up one of his best fantasy outings of the season, passing for 235 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed for 29 yards but lost two fumbles. Sidney Rice (3-50-1 on four targets), Zach Miller (5-40-1 on seven targets) and Kellen Davis (1-1-1) each caught a scoring strike. Golden Tate (4-77-0 on seven targets) topped all pass-catchers in receiving yards. Marshawn Lynch rushed 21 times for 91 yards and one touchdown. By the way, he was very close to hitting pay dirt a second time. Lynch has scored in three of his last four games and has rushed for 90-plus yards in four of seven contests played this season. The elite Seattle defense piled up seven sacks, two interceptions and two forced fumbles. Unfortunately, a punt return for a touchdown was nullified by a penalty, and Brandon Browner was tackled by the turf monster just short of the end zone on an interception return. Fantasy Focus -- Arizona Cardinals: Rashard Mendenhall (13-22-1 and 0-0-0 receiving) and Andre Ellington (3-3-0 rushing and 2-10-0 receiving) ran into brick walls of Seattle defenders all evening. Mendenhall scored on a three-yard run following a turnover deep in Seahawks territory. Unfortunately, Ellington lost targets to Alfonso Smith (4-30-0 receiving, no carries) during garbage time. Larry Fitzgerald (hamstring) managed just two receptions for 17 yards on five targets. Michael Floyd (6-71-0 on 10 targets) led Arizona in receiving yards. Rob Housler (7-53-0, one lost fumble) amassed all but one of his catches in junk time. Backup receiver ...

Waiver Wire Wonders: Week 16 fantasysharks.com Tue 12/18/12 6:30 AM1 Comment

Even with the season winding down, we identify a couple of options out on waivers about whom we feel pretty solid. A few others are worth watching, and we troll the deepest of depths for those of you in deep leagues that need to find something to keep your playoff run going. We spread the wealth out among all the skill positions, something for everyone this week! Solid Pickups WR Brandon Gibson, St. Louis The return of Danny Amendola did not put much of a dent in Gibson's numbers, as he caught six passes which were good for 76 yards against the Minnesota Vikings. His numbers came at the expense of Chris Givens, who saw his production cut to the bone. Amendola is going to get his stats, with Gibson second in line on the Rams. Look for Gibson to continue to be a low-end fantasy option, especially against a weak Tampa Bay defense in Week 16. RB Jackie Battle, San Diego With Ryan Mathews lost for the season, Battle becomes the starting back for the Chargers. Curtis Brinkley got more action last week, but that was only because San Diego was playing from behind. The running game will be on display against the New York Jets in Week 16, so look for Battle to be a decent flex play in Week 16. On the Radar QB Kirk Cousins, Washington After calmly stepping in to complete a clutch comeback against the Baltimore Ravens two weeks ago, not much was expected of the rookie as the starter this week against the Cleveland Browns. He was surprisingly impressive, spreading the ball around on his way to 329 yards and two touchdown passes. With the listless Philadelphia Eagles on the schedule this week, the Redskins can afford to give Robert Griffin III's knee another week to get better. Keep an eye on injury reports; if Cousins is tapped again as the starter, look for him to have another very successful day against Philadelphia. WR Rod Streater, Oakland After back-to-back games of close to 100 yards, Streater kept things going with a five-catch, 62-yard effort against the Kansas City Chiefs. This is the third week that Streater has been the leading wide receiver for the Raiders, ahead of both Denarius Moore and Darrius Heyward-Bey. We like his chances to continue these numbers, even against a tough Carolina Panthers team this upcoming week. TE Tony Scheffler, Detroit A disappointing fantasy week for Scheffler; only three catches for 36 yards. We expected more, especially when it was announced that Brandon Pettigrew was not going to dress. Keep ...

Against the Odds (2011) - Week 8 fantasysharks.com Fri 10/28/11 9:06 AM

Last week Vinnie's feature pick (Denver) not only beat the spread but won outright. Thanks to the Jaguars, Falcons, Jets and Bears, however, it was overall not the best of weeks of Vinnie. Hope is renewed in Week 8, and here's why: Miami Dolphins @ New York Giants (-10): On paper the Giants' injury-riddled defense is soft enough to allow Daniel Thomas a decent rushing day, but this is where any match up advantage comes to an end for Miami. Matt Moore will undoubtedly become more focused on the Giants' pass rush than his receiving options; Dolphins' quarterbacks are being sacked close to four times per game, while this is likely the healthiest defensive ends Justin Tuck, Jason Pierre-Paul and Osi Umenyiora have been all season. Ahmad Bradshaw and Eli Manning will have no problem putting plenty of points on the scoreboard, versus the grossly underachieving Dolphins defense. Gimme the Giants minus the points. Cincinnati Bengals @ Seattle Seahawks (+2.5): Things in Seattle's favor here include, "the 12th man" and Tarvaris Jackson probably getting the nod at quarterback and ... that's about it, really. Cincinnati has a darn good pass defense, led by its corners and underrated defensive line rotation, which brings us to the things not in Seattle's favor. These include - but certainly aren't limited to - Marshawn Lynch and Zach Miller being questionable to play, the Andy Dalton to A.J. Green connection, and Cincinnati benefiting from a week off after winning its last three games. Bernard Scott should get some quality work in as well, subbing for Cedric Benson this week. Gimme the Bengals minus the points. Washington Redskins @ Buffalo Bills (-6.5): This one pits household names such as Anthony Armstrong, Terrence Austin and Logan Paulsen against those of David Nelson, Naaman Roosevelt and Scott Chandler. Actually, if it took you a second to figure which team was which, you're not alone. Although quarterback John Beck isn't as lackluster a contributor for Washington as the casual fan may believe, his supporting cast is going south in a hurry. Fred Davis and Jabar Gaffney can pick up some of the slack while Santana Moss is out, but this marks one of those weeks where it won't add up to nearly enough. Fred Jackson and Stevie Johnson, in particular, will fair quite well for Buffalo. Gimme the Bills minus the points. Cleveland Browns @ San Francisco 49ers (-10): Alex Smith is managing the 49ers offense more efficiently than at any point in his NFL career, and ...

Offseason Frenzy-NFC Recap fantasysharks.com Wed 8/17/11 2:34 PM

The 2011 NFL off season has been one of the strangest offseasons in history and the repercussions have trickled over in to the world of fantasy football. With free agency and trades taking place on the heels of training camp and even spilling over in to the start of camp, keeping up with all the movement can be challenging. Here is a division-by-division rundown of all the notable player moves with fantasy football relevance and how the moves affect the player's value. NFC West Arizona Cardinals -- The Cardinals' accelerated offseason saw many fantasy noteworthy players come and go. Arizona hopes to have Kevin Kolb under center and consistently tossing touchdowns to Larry Fitzgerald for years to come. Kolb is an upgrade for the Cardinals and is a fringe fantasy starter or high-end quality backup. I would approach him with caution and hope to land him as my QB2 and use him as trade bait if he performs up to expectations. The trade of Tim Hightower thins out a crowded backfield and leaves Chris "Beanie" Wells as the undisputed starter. Or is he? The Cardinals drafted Ryan Williams with the intentions of giving him the opportunity to carry the load. Wells is known to get dinged up and any extended stretch of missed time could mean that he finds himself as Williams' backup. Avoid Wells and consider Williams as a late-round flier who could be a solid contributor if he claims the starting role. Arizona's backfield has the looks of a running back by committee and you should temper your expectations for either player barring an injury. Todd Heap is looking to end his career closer to home and joins the Cardinals as their starting tight end. Heap is a reliable, but unspectacular option. At this stage in this career he is nothing more than a fantasy reserve, but you aren't carrying two tight ends on your roster, are you? San Francisco 49ers -- Braylon Edwards joins a team who has several questions with their receivers. Will Michael Crabtree mature and take advantage of all the talent that he possesses? Can Ted Ginn contribute as a wide receiver? Edwards signed a one-year deal and will be playing this year for his next contract. Expect him to put up decent WR3 numbers. His background, work ethic and new surroundings will probably result in him being slightly undervalued. If you grab two dependable wideouts early don't feel bad about adding Edwards to round out your starters in later rounds. St. Louis Rams -- The Rams' only notable addition this offseason was ...
