Former Dolphins G/T Vernon Carey announced that he's coming out of retirement.
Carey, 32 in July, retired in August after the Dolphins failed to re-sign him. He then went on to accept a co-offensive line coach position at a Miami area high school. The Jets reportedly showed interest in Carey last offseason, but he'll likely struggle to find work this summer.

Former Dolphins G/T Vernon Carey has retired from football.
He's reportedly accepted a co-offensive line coach in college. Carey, the 19th overall pick in the 2004 draft, drew light interest from the Jets and Dolphins this offseason, but it never went anywhere. The 32-year-old will hang up his cleats after 107 career starts. Carey played both tackle spots and guard.

The Jets have free agent OL Vernon Carey on their short list, sources tell ESPN New York.
The Jets coaching staff has shown nothing but faith in RT Wayne Hunter, but they know a backup plan is needed. Hunter gave up 8.5 sacks and was flagged for 11 penalties in 2011. Carey, meanwhile, has garnered no known interest since the Dolphins let him walk as a free agent after last season.

One week after reporting the Dolphins would "probably" re-sign free agent RG Vernon Carey, the Palm Beach Post now considers Carey a "longshot" to return.
The Post is now on board with the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, which reported in January that "Carey's value is much higher elsewhere than in South Florida." A liability on passing downs last season, Carey is unlikely to draw much interest as a starter on the open market going into his age-31 campaign.

According to the Palm Beach Post, the Dolphins will "probably" re-sign free agent RG Vernon Carey.
This directly contradicts a South Florida Sun-Sentinel report from January, which said "Carey's value is much higher elsewhere than in South Florida." The Post reports Carey does not want to leave Miami, which is his hometown, and that he will "come reasonably priced." We trust the Post more.

Free agent RG Vernon Carey is not expected back with the Dolphins in 2012.
The South Florida Sun-Sentinel hears that Carey's value is "much higher elsewhere than in South Florida." Declining RT Marc Colombo is also expected to be replaced. John Jerry, a 2010 third-rounder, will likely be thrust back into a starting role, and GM Jeff Ireland maintains a fondness for tackle project Lydon Murtha. New coach Joe Philbin will be rebuilding the O-Line, sending him back to his coaching roots.

Dolphins RG Vernon Carey was forced from Sunday's game against the Eagles with an apparent foot injury.
His return is doubtful. Carey was used sparingly following the injury but started the second half on the sideline. John Jerry is in the game as his immediate backup.

Dolphins RG Vernon Carey (ankle) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Raiders.
Replacement-level talent G John Jerry will start in his place. This certainly won't help Reggie Bush, but the Raiders are among the league's worst teams against the run. RB Steve Slaton, LB Ikaika Alama-Francis, T Will Barker, G Ray Feinga, TE Will Yeatman, and DT Ryan Baker join him on the inactive list.

Dolphins RG Vernon Carey did not return to the game Thursday after limping off with a left ankle injury in the fourth quarter.
Carey wore a protective pad after the game, but did not require the use of crutches while walking to the team bus. Carey has improved gradually in his debut season at guard. Swing man Nate Garner will fill in next week if Carey can't play.

Coach Tony Sparano indicated that RG Vernon Carey played the best of any Dolphins offensive linemen in Week 6.
"This guy is going to be a really good guard," said Sparano. It took a couple of months, but Carey is finally feeling comfortable after moving inside from tackle. The Dolphins may opt to re-sign him next season despite his recent history of knee problems.
