The Texans claimed Johnson off waivers from the Buccaneers on Wednesday, Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
Johnson, who caught 36 of his 55 targets for 360 yards in 17 games with the Buccaneers last season, lands in a spot where could could carve out a key role on offense once he's up to speed with the Texans' playbook. Brandin Cooks and Nico Collins profile as Houston's top two wideouts, but beyond those two options, plenty of targets are up for grabs.

The Buccaneers waived Johnson on Tuesday, Michael Giardi of NFL Network reports.
EDGE Analysis
Johnson, a 2020 fifth-round pick, finds himself on the outside of Tampa Bay's deep wide receiver corps despite putting together a solid preseason, which he capped off by catching three of four targets for 36 yards during Saturday's finale versus the Colts. He appeared in all 17 regular-season games last year, securing 36 of 55 targets for 360 receiving yards. It's something of a surprise to see the Buccaneers part ways with Johnson, and he's a candidate to be claimed on waivers.

Johnson brought in three of four targets for 36 yards in the Buccaneers' 27-10 preseason loss to the Colts on Saturday night.
EDGE Analysis
Johnson already seemingly has the No. 5 wideout spot sealed up, but he co-led the team in receptions in the preseason finale for good measure. The third-year receiver put together a very strong body of work in both training camp and exhibition games this summer, and given he already has a solid rapport with Tom Brady, Johnson could carve out his fair share of opportunities over the course of the regular season despite the wealth of talent ahead of him.

Johnson brought in both targets for 24 yards in the Buccaneers' 13-3 preseason loss to the Titans on Saturday night.
EDGE Analysis
Johnson co-led the Bucs in receptions on the night despite his modest total, the second time in as many exhibitions he's been at the top of the leaderboard in that department. His roster spot is secure, but it's still encouraging to see him generate serviceable production relative to playing time and inconsistent quarterback play.

Johnson brought in six of seven targets for 73 yards in the Buccaneers' 26-24 preseason loss to the Dolphins on Saturday night.
EDGE Analysis
Johnson led the Buccaneers in receptions, receiving yards and targets on a night when none of Mike Evans (hamstring), Chris Godwin (knee), Julio Jones (coach's decision) and Russell Gage (leg) saw the field. The third-year wideout made a notable statement in his bid to lock down a spot in the latter half of the Buccaneers' wide receiver depth chart and should continue to log plenty of snaps again in next Saturday night's road exhibition matchup versus the Titans.

Johnson, who's been a full participant in training camp after finishing last season's postseason run with a rib injury, has made a strong impression in his bid for the No. 5 receiver job, Greg Auman of The Athletic reports. "Tyler came in in great shape," head coach Todd Bowles said. "I think he's learned the offense a little more, so he's playing a lot freer than he was the last two years. This is a great camp for him. He'll get a lot of playing time, and we'll get to see what he's really doing."
EDGE Analysis
Auman notes Johnson has particularly impressed with catches over the middle in 7-on-7 and full-squad drills. The third-year pro has acquitted himself relatively well in limited opportunity over his first two seasons, taking advantage of injuries on the Buccaneers' receiving corps at times on his way to generating a 48-529-2 line on 72 targets across 31 games. With Tampa Bay's top four wideouts set, Johnson is battling several candidates, including capable holdovers Breshad Perriman and Scotty Miller, for a spot on the back end of the positional depth chart this summer.

Johnson (ribs) will have to compete with free-agent signee Russell Gage and the returning Breshad Perriman (abdomen) for snaps behind Mike Evans and Chris Godwin (knee) in 2022, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
Johnson posted seven tallies of at least three receptions during the 2021 season and added another five grabs during the Buccaneers' two-game playoff run. The second-year wideout undoubtedly made strides while logging 38 more targets and 328 more snaps than in his rookie 2020 campaign, but the signing of Gage gives him some more experienced competition. The former Falcons wideout produced a 138-1,556-8 line across the last two seasons alone, and in addition to Gage, Johnson also will have to deal with the presence of Perriman, who has experience in the offense and brings some coveted deep speed. Godwin's likely absence early in the season will give Johnson a clearer path to meaningful snaps no matter where he ends up in the pecking order, but he'll have to make a notable impact to ensure that remains the norm once his teammate is healthy.

Johnson sustained a rib injury during Sunday's divisional-round game against the Rams, Carmen Vitali of the Buccaneers' official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
Before he exited in the second half, Johnson gathered in three of six targets for 15 yards. With the second-year wide receiver sidelined, Cyril Grayson (hamstring) and Breshad Perriman (hip) inactive and Chris Godwin (knee) on injured reserve, the Buccaneers are down to Mike Evans, Scotty Miller and John Brown at the position.

Johnson corralled two of three targets for 30 yards Sunday in the Buccaneers' 31-15 win over the Eagles in the wild-card round.
EDGE Analysis
Johnson should be locked into a regular role in three-receiver sets for the rest of the postseason, but the second-year wideout is a clear tertiary option in the passing game behind Mike Evans and Rob Gronkowski at this stage. If Cyril Grayson (hamstring) is able to make it back for the divisional round, Johnson's path to consistent targets could become more blocked.

Johnson secured five of seven targets for 22 yards in the Buccaneers' 41-17 win over the Panthers on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
The second-year wideout was certainly busy, tying with Mike Evans for second on the team in targets behind Rob Gronkowski. However, Johnson averaged just 4.4 yards per catch, leading to a decidedly underwhelming fantasy day. Despite the modest output, it's worth noting Johnson logged one more target and as many catches as veteran Breshad Perriman, so he should be expected to enjoy a solid role in the air attack once again versus the Eagles in Sunday's wild-card matchup.
