Spears (ankle) remained in a walking boot at practice Friday, Nick Suss of The Tennessean reports.
EDGE Analysis
Spears suffered a right high-ankle sprain in the Titans' preseason opener against the Buccaneers on Aug. 9, and he hasn't returned to practice yet. The running back has not been placed on the PUP list, so there's a belief that he will be able to return to action somewhere near the beginning of the regular season, but he appears unlikely to be ready to go for the team's opener Sept. 7 in Denver. If Spears is unavailable against the Broncos, Julius Chestnut seems to be the top candidate to operate as the No. 2 option in the backfield behind starter Tony Pollard.

Spears was diagnosed with a high-ankle sprain that he suffered in Saturday's 29-7 preseason loss to the Buccaneers, Turron Davenport of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Spears had to be carted off the field after injuring his ankle in the first half. Per Paul Kuharsky of PaulKuharsky.com, Spears is expected to miss at least a couple of weeks, which puts him in jeopardy of missing the Titans' regular-season opener against the Broncos on Sunday, Sept. 7. In Spears' absence, Julius Chestnut and Kalel Mullings will have the opportunity to audition for a potential RB2 role behind Tony Pollard, who may have to take on a bigger workload at the start of the regular season.

Spears (ankle) boarded the Titans' team bus on crutches and in a walking boot after Saturday's loss to Tampa Bay, Paul Kuharsky of PaulKuharsky.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Spears needed a cart to get to the locker room after suffering a right leg injury in the first half of Saturday's preseason opener. After the game, head coach Brian Callahan said Spears likely has an ankle injury but will need further evaluation, per Paul Kuharsky of PaulKuharsky.com, and Turron Davenport of ESPN.com reports that the running back's initial diagnosis is a high-ankle sprain. If Spears has an injury that carries over into the regular season, Julius Chestnut and/or Kalel Mullings could be asked to step into a bigger role. In addition, Tony Pollard would likely need to shoulder a bigger-than-planned workload -- there had been some talk during the offseason and preseason that the pair could work in a more even split compared to last year.

Spears suffered a lower right leg injury in Saturday's preseason game against Tampa Bay, Turron Davenport of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Spears was hurt in the first half and had to be carted to the locker room. He clearly won't return to the contest, though the severity of the issue likely won't be ascertained until the running back is further assessed. This could end up being a tough blow for Spears, who is on the depth chart as Tennessee's No. 2 running back but has been discussed as a potential 1B option in a more even backfield split this year.

Titans coach Brian Callahan said during mandatory minicamp that Spears has "had an unbelievable offseason" and that he's "really excited to see what he can bring to us this year because he's been in a great place," Jim Wyatt of the team's official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
Spears has been a full participant at offseason activities after battling ankle and hamstring injuries in 2024, in addition to two concussions, the latter of which forced him to sit out Week 18. The 2023 third-round pick wrapped 2024 with just 312 yards and four touchdowns on 84 carries across 12 regular-season appearances, plus 31 catches for 226 yards and another score. Spears said he's motivated to "be as consistent as I can be" in 2025 and focusing on "doing more things toward being a better teammate." At full health, it wouldn't be inaccurate to call Spears one of the league's most elusive runners, so as long as he's able to stay on the field, he'll have a path to emerge as a meaningful playmaker alongside Tony Pollard. Callahan said in May that his plan for 2025 is to deploy a more even backfield split between Pollard and Spears that allows the two to "play a little more evenly," and the team seems a strong candidate to build its offense around the ground game in Cam Ward's rookie season.

Spears (concussion) participated in Tennessee's OTAs on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
Spears is healthy again after having been sidelined for the team's Week 18 loss versus the Texans last season with a concussion. The 23-year-old rushed for 312 yards and four touchdowns on 84 carries and hauled in 31 passes for 226 yards and an additional touchdown in 12 games during the 2024 campaign, and he should once again serve as the team's No. 2 running back behind Tony Pollard in the upcoming season.

Spears (concussion) has been ruled out for Sunday's season finale against the Texans, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
While Spears has been ruled out, fellow running back Tony Pollard (ankle) is viewed as a game-time decision for Sunday's 1:00 p.m. ET contest, per Turron Davenport of ESPN.com. In the event that Pollard ends up sidelined as well, however, Julius Chestnut would be in line to see an expanded role Week 18, with Joshua Kelley and possibly practice-squad member Jabari Small mixing in.

Spears (concussion) didn't practice Thursday, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
Spears has one more chance to practice ahead of Sunday's season finale against the Texans, but at this stage, he doesn't appear to be trending toward playing this weekend after sustaining his second concussion of the campaign in the Week 17 loss to the Jaguars. Fellow running back Tony Pollard (ankle) -- who was inactive last week -- remained a limited participant in practice Thursday, but he could reclaim his usual duties as Tennessee's lead back if he's cleared to play Sunday. However, if Spears and Pollard are both sidelined versus Houston, Julius Chestnut would be in line to see an expanded role, with Joshua Kelley and potentially Jabari Small mixing in.

Spears (concussion) didn't participate in Wednesday's walk-through practice, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
On Monday, head coach Brian Callahan noted that he wasn't optimistic about Spears' chances of playing in Week 18 against the Texans, after the running back left this past Sunday's 20-13 loss to the Jaguars upon suffering his second concussion in under two months. Meanwhile, Tony Pollard (ankle) -- who was inactive in Week 17 -- was limited in practice Wednesday. If neither Spears nor Pollard are available versus Houston this weekend, Julius Chestnut would be in line to see an expanded role, with Joshua Kelley and Jabari Small offering added depth out of the backfield.

Titans head coach Brian Callahan suggested Wednesday that Spears (concussion) is unlikely to play Sunday against the Texans, Turron Davenport of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
When asked about the makeup of the Tennessee backfield for the season finale, Callahan didn't mention Spears, instead noting that Julis Chestnut, Joshua Kelley and Jabari Small likely would form a committee if Tony Pollard (ankle) was inactive. The implication is that Spears isn't expected to play, after suffering his second concussion of the season during this past Sunday's loss to the Jaguars.
