Player Prop Bets - Week 16 fantasysharks.com Sun 12/23/12 1:00 PM

Each week I dig through player props and attempt to pick out the most attractive opportunities. After all, betting is all about finding bad odds and exploiting them! The Sand$ represents how much I am wagering and ultimately how confident I am in each bet. The money line is displayed at the end of each bet. Like a point spread, the money line is used to even out the attractiveness of both sides. For example, a negative line of -115 would require a bet of 115 Sand$ in order to win 100 Sand$. A positive line of +130 would return 130 Sand$ when a bet of 100 Sand$ is placed. Occasionally I will put out a parlay bet as well. A parlay is a single bet that links together two or more individual wagers and is dependent on all of those wagers winning together. The benefit of the parlay bet is much better odds than placing each individual bet separately since the difficulty of hitting it is much higher. Season prop bets: 20,000 Sand$ Week 16 prop bets: 1,500 Sand$ Last week gain/loss: +3,261 Sand$ Season gain/loss: +14,991 Sand$ Week 15 Results 200 Sand$ - Josh Freeman (Tampa Bau) Total Passing Yards OVER 260.5 (-115) (+174) 300 Sand$ - Brian Hartline (Miami) Total Receiving Yards OVER 56.5 (-115) (+261) 300 Sand$ - Tony Scheffler (Detroit) Total Receptions OVER 3 (EVEN) (Push) 200 Sand$ - Larry Fitzgerald (Arizona) Total Receptions UNDER 4.5 (-115) (+174) 200 Sand$ - Jamaal Charles (Kansas City) Total Rushing Yards OVER 99.5 (-115) (-200) 200 Sand$ - Stevan Ridley (New England) Total Rushing Yards UNDER 70.5 (-115) (+174) 100 Sand$ - The Detroit Lions To Score 2 More Points Than The Green Bay Packers (-115) (-100) Week 16 Player Prop Bets 300 Sand$ - Michael Turner (Atlanta) Total Rushing Yards UNDER 53.5 (-115) The new gift that keeps on giving. We miss your prop bets Mark Sanchez and Alex Smith. 200 Sand$ - Matthew Stafford (Detroit) Total Completions OVER 25.5 (EVEN) Stafford has completed more than 25 passes in two out of every three games this year, and Atlanta's pass defense is just about average. This bet also has even odds! 200 Sand$ - Greg Jennings (Green Bay) Total Receiving Yards OVER 52.5 (-115) After a disappointing first game back two weeks ago, Jennings had seven targets and looked a lot more comfortable last week against the Chicago Bears. The Tennessee defense is a much softer matchup. 100 Sand$ - Aaron Hernandez (New England) WILL Score a Touchdown (+110) Gut call of the week! ...

Waiver Wire Wonders: Week 16 fantasysharks.com Tue 12/18/12 6:30 AM1 Comment

Even with the season winding down, we identify a couple of options out on waivers about whom we feel pretty solid. A few others are worth watching, and we troll the deepest of depths for those of you in deep leagues that need to find something to keep your playoff run going. We spread the wealth out among all the skill positions, something for everyone this week! Solid Pickups WR Brandon Gibson, St. Louis The return of Danny Amendola did not put much of a dent in Gibson's numbers, as he caught six passes which were good for 76 yards against the Minnesota Vikings. His numbers came at the expense of Chris Givens, who saw his production cut to the bone. Amendola is going to get his stats, with Gibson second in line on the Rams. Look for Gibson to continue to be a low-end fantasy option, especially against a weak Tampa Bay defense in Week 16. RB Jackie Battle, San Diego With Ryan Mathews lost for the season, Battle becomes the starting back for the Chargers. Curtis Brinkley got more action last week, but that was only because San Diego was playing from behind. The running game will be on display against the New York Jets in Week 16, so look for Battle to be a decent flex play in Week 16. On the Radar QB Kirk Cousins, Washington After calmly stepping in to complete a clutch comeback against the Baltimore Ravens two weeks ago, not much was expected of the rookie as the starter this week against the Cleveland Browns. He was surprisingly impressive, spreading the ball around on his way to 329 yards and two touchdown passes. With the listless Philadelphia Eagles on the schedule this week, the Redskins can afford to give Robert Griffin III's knee another week to get better. Keep an eye on injury reports; if Cousins is tapped again as the starter, look for him to have another very successful day against Philadelphia. WR Rod Streater, Oakland After back-to-back games of close to 100 yards, Streater kept things going with a five-catch, 62-yard effort against the Kansas City Chiefs. This is the third week that Streater has been the leading wide receiver for the Raiders, ahead of both Denarius Moore and Darrius Heyward-Bey. We like his chances to continue these numbers, even against a tough Carolina Panthers team this upcoming week. TE Tony Scheffler, Detroit A disappointing fantasy week for Scheffler; only three catches for 36 yards. We expected more, especially when it was announced that Brandon Pettigrew was not going to dress. Keep ...

Week 15: Weathering the Storm fantasysharks.com Thu 12/13/12 8:30 AM

With the holidays around the corner, we must now factor weather conditions and other variables into the fantasy football season, which should be playoff time in most head-to-head leagues. With freezing conditions along with falling rain and snow in the forecast, there may be less points on the board and potentially decreased passing numbers in some contests. In addition, injuries continue to pile along with the potential benching of key fantasy studs locked into their playoff seeding in the near future. With matchups over the next few weeks deciding the fate of your fantasy league's prized trophy, take a dive with me we prep for Week 15. If you listened to me last week, you started Seattle's defense that earned owners around 41 points in most leagues! QB Andy Dalton - Although it will be chilly for Week 15's first game on Thursday, the weather will be favorable in comparison with other outdoor stadiums. With questions regarding the status of several quarterbacks up in the air this weekend, Dalton is a safe bet for a strong performance. His home and away numbers are very similar as he prepares for the Philadelphia Eagles, who have allowed multi-touchdown games to opposing quarterbacks for seven straight weeks. This will be a make-or-break game for Cincinnati, who still has a shot at making the playoffs. Look for a strong performance from Dalton. Week 15 forecast: 225 passing yards, 2 TD RB Reggie Bush - After a dynamic start, Bush cooled down mid-season with decreased production and a shared workload with Daniel Thomas. The Miami running back has experienced a slight resurgence and earned 65 rushing yards and 38 receiving yards off of seven targets in Week 14. Although he did not find the end zone, Bush did break the 100 total yards mark for the first time since Week 2. With weather as a non-factor and a matchup against the New Orleans Saints, who have allowed more rushing yards, receiving yards and overall points to opposing running backs, Bush should have a huge performance this weekend. Week 15 forecast: 110 total yards, TD WR Josh Gordon - It is difficult to remember when a Cleveland Browns receiver was considered a "must-start." Gordon has been relatively consistent and even heating up during the Browns' recent win streak. He is averaging more than 100 yards over his last two games and was targeted 12 times last weekend. Gordon will be a heavy contributor to fantasy teams with a matchup against the Washington Redskins, who have ...

Monday Night Takeaways -- Week 14 fantasysharks.com Tue 12/11/12 5:15 AM

Houston 14, New England 42 Texans It's never a good day when the backups are in the game with six minutes still remaining. In those closing minutes, second string quarterback T.J. Yates nearly outscored starter Matt Scahub. In short, it was a bad day for all Texans players. Patriots We had our first real Brandon Lloyd sighting since week eight. The much maligned wide receiver suddenly showed up with his fourth and fifth touchdowns of the season - although touchdown number two was a fluky fumble recovery in the end zone. I'm still not banking my championship hopes on Lloyd's sporadic production. Aaron Hernandez has fully returned from his ankle injury delivering two touchdowns. Just in time. Tuesday Morning Quick Hits •Ravens offensive coordinator Cam Cameron was fired yesterday. Expect a heavier dose of Ray Rice moving forward. •Dwayne Bowe has been diagnosed with two broken ribs. He's likely done for the season. •Neither Michael Vick nor LeSean McCoy has been medically cleared to return. Early indications have both Bryce Brown and Nick Foles once again starting for the Eagles in Week 15. •Dez Bryant is seeing a hand specialist to examine a torn tendon in his finger. If the injury requires surgery, he could be lost for the season. •Ahmad Bradshaw is undergoing a battery of tests on his injured knee. David Wilson has sudden waiver wire appeal. •The Bills have lost Fred Jackson for the remainder of the season with a knee injury. To the bain of head coach Chan Gailey, C.J. Spiller will finally carry the load and be given a chance to equal his RB1 hype. •The extent of Brandon Pettigrew's ankle injury has yet to be determined. Tony Scheffler would assume the starting role with low end TE1 potential. •Eagles tight end Brent Celek has already been ruled out for Week 15. Jason Avant has sudden WR3 appeal for those owners hurting at the position. •Last but not least, RG III has been diagnosed with a "mild sprain." I'd be willing to bet my left arm he won't play next week. Good Luck to all next weekend. Hope to see yeah on the flip side.

Fantasy 411 - Week 9 fantasysharks.com Tue 10/30/12 9:15 AM

You hesitantly tip-toe to the front door, stumbling past bikes, balls and a carved jack-o-lantern that looks eerily like Tony Romo. Stretching out your hand, you ring the doorbell and patiently wait for an answer. "Trick or treat!" you say, holding out you bag. With a thud, something is tossed in your bag and off you go to the next house. Identifying free agent fantasy football players at this stage in the season can be a lot like going trick-or-treating was as a kid. Did you get a Snickers or a box of raisins? I'm here to shine the flashlight down deep in to the bag of potential adds and tell you who are the "tricks" and who are the "treats." So what is in that deep, dark bag known as the waiver wire this week? Titus Young came up big on Sunday as Matthew Stafford registered his first multi-touchdown game of the season. Young hauled in all nine passes thrown his way for 100 yards and two touchdowns. Our friends at www.fleaflicker.com show that Young is currently owned in only 45 percent of leagues. When Nate Burleson landed on Injured Reserve, many people assumed that Brandon Pettigrew would see an increased role. The Lions have been involving Tony Scheffler quite a bit in the passing game this season and he only had one less target than Pettigrew this week. Young is the player whose value sees the greatest increase going forward. Think Reese's cup: the perfect blend of talent and opportunity. These are the treats you hope your bag is full of. Young wasn't the only likely free agent wide receiver to have an impressive outing this week. St. Louis' Chris Givens is owned in only 10 percent of leagues and had more than 60 yards to go with a touchdown in London on Sunday. A closer look reveals that Givens might not be exactly what he appears. He certainly has big play ability, but Givens has yet to catch more than three balls in any game this season. A rookie drafted in the fourth round, Givens is a talent that is developing the trust of Sam Bradford, but fantasy owners should be a bit more cautions. "Big play" receivers notoriously frustrate fantasy owners. Rookie receivers can be equally hard to figure out. Danny Amendola should return soon and will likely limit some of Givens' time on the field. While Givens can take a one catch afternoon and make it in to a decent outing, he can also disappear and hurt your team. This one has all the makeup of not being exactly what it looks like. It looks like chocolate. It cramps your jaw as you chew it ...

THE TOP STORYLINES: The Green Bay Packers Notch Their First 10-0 Start Since 1962 By Outlasting The Tampa Bay Buccaneers 35-26 Although Aaron Rodgers and company didn't look 100 percent sharp -- they were coming off a Monday night game -- the defending Super Bowl champions held off a scrappy Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-6) team thanks to a 40-yard Rodgers-to-Jordy-Nelson touchdown pass with 2:55 left to help secure the victory. Although he racked up 299-3-1 on 23-of-34 completions, a visibly frustrated Rodgers said during his post-game presser that he "didn't throw the ball well." Nelson continues to establish himself as the second option in the Packers' passing attack, accumulating a team-best 6-123-2 against the Bucs. Tampa Bay contained Greg Jennings, limiting him to a season-worst 2-6-0 stat line. It's amazing the Packers scored 35 points despite getting a combined 36 receiving yards from Jennings, James Jones and Jermichael Finely. The running game also disappointed, but what else is new? By the way, Green Bay's first score in this contest came on a one-yard run by 337-pound defensive tackle B.J. Raji in the first quarter. Although "Refrigerator Raji" has a nice ring to it, Chicago Bears' fans will be quick to remind us all that their Mike Ditka-led team originally gave the NFL William "The Refrigerator" Perry back in the 1980s. The Buccaneers dropped their fourth straight contest, but, despite committing nine costly penalties and two turnovers, they gave the Packers all they could handle. Josh Freeman (28-of-38 for 342-2-2) and LeGarrette Blount (18-107-1) have been driving fantasy owners crazy with their respective inconsistent fantasy production, but they both turned in strong outings. Kellen Winslow topped all Tampa Bay pass-catchers (9-132-0) while Mike Williams (7-83-1) scored for just the second time this season. Matthew Stafford Tosses Five Touchdown Passes to Rally the Detroit Lions to a 49-35 Victory over the Carolina Panthers After watching Matthew Stafford toss two early picks, which is mainly why the Detroit Lions (7-3) fell behind 17-7, many had wondered if his injured index finger was far worse than the Lions had led us to believe. Would Detroit bench Stafford and hope Shaun Hill could rally them to a win? Nope. With a huge assist from the surprising Kevin Smith (16-140-2 and 4-61-1 receiving), Stafford silenced the critics that skewered him for a poor outing against the Chicago Bears two weeks ago, accumulating an impressive ...

In The Spotlight: Week 8 In Review fantasysharks.com Mon 10/31/11 9:06 AM

THE TOP STORYLINES: The St. Louis Rams Notch Their First Win of 2011, Stunning the New Orleans Saints 31-21 The St. Louis Rams (1-6) were coming off a humiliating 34-7 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, and the New Orleans Saints (5-3) were rolling after a 62-7 drubbing of the Indianapolis Colts on national television. From every angle, the Saints had the advantage over the Rams, so how do you explain what is easily the biggest upset of the season? The emotionally flat Saints could not contain Steven Jackson (25-159-2 and 4-32-0 receiving), and they could not protect Brees. The unexpectedly inspired Rams pressured the Saints triggerman all day, sacking him six times and intercepting him twice (one pick-six). Brees compiled just 269-1-2, which is a poor game by his standards. With little time to throw, the New Orleans deep passing game was stymied, which explains the poor showings from the usually dependable Jimmy Graham (4-39-0) and Marques Colston (3-50-0). After surrendering 294 rushing yards to the Cowboys, St. Louis held New Orleans to just 46 rushing yards. Rams backup A.J. Feely compiled a modest 175-1-0, and Brandon Lloyd led all St. Louis receivers with 6-53-1. Tim Tebow's Miami Miracle Followed By a Mile High Meltdown Denver Broncos Blasted 45-10 by Visiting Detroit Lions The Denver Post already is ripping Tebow's pathetic performance, calling him a "sorry excuse for a pro quarterback." Just remember Denver Broncos (2-6) fans -- you wanted Tebow to start. And you finally figured out what head coach John Fox already knew: Tebow is athletic, but he is not NFL quarterback material right now because of his sub-standard passing skills. And we also learned that Tebow and most of the Denver offense are not safe fantasy options. Thanks to the putrid play of Tebow -- not to mention the entire Broncos team -- the Detroit Lions (6-2) defense/special teams rolled up some big points for its owners, holding Denver to 10 offensive points while amassing seven sacks, one pick (returned for a touchdown) and one recovered fumble (returned for a touchdown). The erratic-armed Tebow completed 18 of his 39 passes for 172-1-1 and piled up 10-63-0 on the ground. Knowshon Moreno (14-69-0 and 1-5-0 receiving) and Eric Decker (6-72-1) were Denver's offensive leaders. This contest was just another day at the office for the Lions offense, which helped the Motor City Crew earn its biggest road triumph in 41 years. Matthew Stafford's injured right ankle did not slow him down...

Lions TE Scheffler out with concussion brunoboys.net Fri 10/14/11 5:45 PM

Detroit Lions tight end Tony Scheffler has been ruled out of Sunday's game against San Francisco due to a concussion.
