Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic "doesn't see" the Cardinals making a play for Tarvaris Jackson, who's on the trade block in Seattle. SI's Jim Trotter tweeted Wednesday that Cardinals players would "welcome" Jackson into their quarterback competition, but that doesn't mean a thing if the front office and coaching staff aren't on board. "I've been surprised before but I don't see this happening," wrote Somers of the T-Jack to Arizona possibility. We wouldn't bet on it, either. Jackson wouldn't be an upgrade for the Cards.

A source with knowledge of the situation tells Profootballtalk that Tarvaris Jackson was never a serious contender to start in 2012.

Barring an injury to Matt Flynn or Russell Wilson this week, the Seahawks will likely begin shopping Tarvaris Jackson, according to CBS Sports' Jason LaCanfora. With training camps already winding down, it's hard to imagine another team shoe-horning Jackson into a starting gig. Arizona appears to be the one team in the market for a veteran stopgap, and reliable beat writer Kent Somers is shooting down the notion that they might be interested in Jackson. Due $4 million this season, Jackson is more likely to be released than traded.

Tarvaris Jackson has resumed working with the first-team offense this week. Jackson was left out of the preseason opener because the coaches already know what he brings to the table as the incumbent starter. Although Jackson remains in the mix for the Week 1 job, Matt Flynn is still considered the favorite.

Tarvaris Jackson was the first-team quarterback during Sunday's intrasquad scrimmage. We wouldn't read too much into this. The three Seahawks quarterbacks have been rotating daily and ESPN's Adam Schefter already reported Monday that Matt Flynn is the favorite. "There's a plan in mind here," Carroll said of Jackson's role with the first-unit. "It was exactly right. His turn."

As expected, Tarvaris Jackson opened Seahawks camp as the first-team quarterback. Coach Pete Carroll is sticking by his guns of a three-way competition, and the incumbent starter was first in line for training camp reps. We fully expect Matt Flynn to outplay Jackson in preseason games and on the practice field, and take the reins before Week 1. Depending on August performances, third-round pick Russell Wilson could pass "T-Jack" to be Flynn's top backup.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen doesn't believe Tarvaris Jackson is the frontrunner for the Seahawks' starting quarterback job. Jackson will reportedly receive the first starting reps of Seahawks camp, but Mort appears to share Rotoworld's opinion that he'll be quickly overtaken by Matt Flynn. Depending on how third-round pick Russell Wilson looks in the preseason, it's not inconceivable that Jackson will no longer be with the Seahawks come Week 1.

According to The Sports Xchange's Len Pasquarelli, "even some people in his corner" privately question whether Tarvaris Jackson is capable of elevating his play at age 29. In other words, even T-Jack's closest supporters question if he'll ever emerge as more than a backup-caliber player. Pasquarelli reports that news of Jackson receiving first-team snaps to open Seahawks camp "generated mixed reactions" both inside and outside the Seattle organization. Jackson will open camp as the starter, but he's very likely to be overtaken by Matt Flynn in preseason.

ESPN's John Clayton reported on SportsCenter Sunday that Tarvaris Jackson will receive the first quarterback rep when the Seahawks open training camp late next month. Jackson is the incumbent, and Clayton says higher-priced Matt Flynn has some work to do to overtake him. "(Flynn) hasn't wowed anybody in all the offseason program. And because of that, when they start training camp, Tarvaris Jackson will be taking the first snap," Clayton said. "... It's still gonna be a three-way competition. Because of that, Flynn's going to have to pick things up and wow everybody or at least take control of it during camp. He's not done it yet."

Coach Pete Carroll said that Tarvaris Jackson currently has his nose in front of Matt Flynn for the starting quarterback job.
