Johnson was released by Miami on Saturday, Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
Johnson was in a playing time battle with a handful of other running backs for the right to be the backup to Jay Ajayi but didn't impress the coaching staff enough to stick with Miami. He could be brought back at the end of Week 1 when his salary wouldn't be guaranteed but that would seem unlikely.

Johnson (foot) returned to practice Wednesday, Joe Schad of The Palm Beach Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Johnson reportedly injured his foot Monday, but given the limited severity of the injury, he was able to be get back to practicing quickly. While the quick turnaround does bode well for the 25-year-old competing for a final roster spot, he still has his work cut out for him moving forward.

Johnson is dealing with a foot injury, The Miami Herald's Adam Beasley reports.
EDGE Analysis
With Jay Ajayi, Damien Williams and Kenyan Drake all locks for the final roster, Johnson is left to compete with Senorise Perry and De'Veon Smith for the No. 4 spot on the depth chart -- a spot that may not come with a roster spot. Even if his injury clears up quickly, Johnson will face tough odds to make the team.

Johnson totaled 27 yards and a touchdown on seven carries and secured both of his targets for 28 yards in Saturday's 27-21 preseason victory over the Jaguars.
EDGE Analysis
The young vet capped off a 10-play, 79-yard drive with a one-yard TD on the first play of the fourth quarter. Johnson also kickstarted that possession with nine-and-17-yard gains on the first two plays, and was also productive in the passing game with his two targets. Johnson continues jockeying for a spot on the depth chart behind Doug Martin and Charles Sims and took a positive step towards that goal with his production Saturday.

Johnson was signed by the Bucs on Monday to compete for a backup job, Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 23-year-old tailback returns to the NFL after sitting out the 2015 season. Johnson was among the Jaguars' final cuts at the end of training camp last summer, after tallying 86 yards and a pair of touchdowns in his rookie campaign in 2014. The 5-foot-10, 216-pound back, who rushed for 1,139 yards and 14 touchdowns in his senior season at UCF, worked out for the Bucs last week. He'll likely wage a training camp battle with encumbent Mike James for the third running back spot behind Doug Martin and Charles Sims.

Johnson could be in danger of being cut before the regular season, the Florida Times-Union reports.
It's unclear how the Jags' running back depth chart will shake out, but T.J. Yeldon, Toby Gerhart and Denard Robinson project as the top three backs, and the Times-Union notes that Corey Grant, who has stood out on special teams, may have moved ahead of Johnson on the depth chart. The UCF product was called out by head coach Gus Bradley during OTA's, so it appears he has some ground to make up is he's to stay on as the No. 4 running back.

Johnson was mentioned by coach Gus Bradley as a player who needs to "pick it up" during OTA's, Ryan O'Halloran of the Florida Times-Union reports.
Johnson carried the ball sparingly as a rookie last season and is expected to compete with the likes of Toby Gerhart, Denard Robinson, Bernard Pierce and T.J. Yeldon for carries in 2015. While he was never considered much of a favorite to win the starting job, it appears Johnson has already fallen behind the rest of the backs during OTA's. Of course, it's still early in the offseason, so a lot can change, but early indications are that Johnson has considerable ground to make up if he hopes to factor into the Jags' ground attack this season.
