Mundy (hip) was placed on season-ending injured reserve Sunday, CBS 2 Chicago's Zach Zaidman reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mundy's hip injury was previously believed to be minor, but it turns out that isn't the case. A 16-game starter last season, he was expected to provide depth behind Antrell Rolle and Adrian Amos, the projected starters at safety.

Mundy isn't expected to challenge for a starting role this season at one of the Bears' two safety spots, ESPN.com reports. Though Mundy led the Bears with 103 tackles and tied for the top honors on the team in interceptions (four), it was mostly a product of circumstance than pure skill. After veteran Antrel Rolle was signed in the offseason to play strong safety, it appears Mundy won't be given a legitimate chance at competing for the free safety role, where Brock Vereen and rookie Adrian Amos are the top candidates for those duties. Instead, Mundy is expected to see most of his work as part of sub packages, where his lower expected snap count will make tackle opportunities more scarce.

Mundy finished the 2014 season as the Bears' leader in tackles and was tied for the team lead in interceptions, accruing 103 stops to go along with four picks. In real-life terms, Mundy doesn't grade out as one of the league's better safeties, but he was a pleasant surprise in the fantasy realm. Playing behind an underachieving front seven, Mundy racked up tackles at a strong clip in the second half of the season, topping the century mark for the first time in his career and ranking 10th among all defensive backs in the category. He'll be under a contract for one more season and should be in line for a starting role again in 2015.

Mundy recorded three stops and an interception in the Bears' Week 16 loss to the Lions. Mundy has really come through for those in IDP leagues who might have rolled the dice with him at one of their defensive back spots over the second half of the season. Despite the Bears' defense often being torched in those contests, Mundy has amassed 58 tackles, three interceptions and a sack over his last eight contests. The turnovers are probably a bit fluky, but the tackle opportunities should remain plentiful for Mundy when the Bears take on the Vikings in Sunday's season finale.

Mundy accrued nine tackles and registered his first sack of the season in Monday's loss to the Saints. The Bears' defense is struggling mightily right now, and while Mundy's deficiencies in coverage have often contributed to that, he's still racking up the counting stats. The safety leads the Bears with 89 tackles on the season and has really stepped up his production of late, finishing with at least eight tackles or an interception in six of his last seven contests. He could make for a serviceable IDP play from the defensive back spot over the final two weeks of the season.

Mundy gathered six tackles in last Thursday's loss to the Cowboys. While not a standout player at safety, Mundy has enjoyed a productive run over the last six weeks. During that span, he's collected two interceptions to go along with 46 total stops, with most of those tackle opportunities owing to the Bears' porous team defense over that span. He could make for a viable addition to fantasy rosters in Week 15, when the Bears will face the Saints on Monday Night Football.

Mundy tallied eight tackles and intercepted a pass in Sunday's win over the Buccaneers. Mundy has interceptions in back-to-back weeks and leads the Bears in tackles, but his total in the latter category pales in comparison to some of the top-tier IDP safeties. His fantasy value mostly remains limited to deeper formats at this point.

Mundy registered a season-best 11 tackles in Sunday's 55-14 loss to the Packers. Mundy has compiled a team-leading 20 tackles over his last two games, but that doesn't exactly provide an accurate illustration of how he's performed. He and fellow safety Chris Conte didn't offer much assistance on deep routes Sunday, as Jordy Nelson found himself wide open on two deep touchdowns and quite possibly an additional one if not for a 53-yard pass interference penalty on Tim Jennings.

Mundy registered a season-high nine tackles in Sunday's 51-23 loss to the Patriots. Mundy looked utterly helpless containing Rob Gronkowski and the rest of a Patriots receiving corps that torched the Bears for 365 yards through the air on the afternoon, but at least he was able to collect plenty of tackles along the way. The nine stops nearly matched his collective total from the previous three weeks combined (10), and that lack of consistency in his production probably makes him an unreliable IDP option.

Mundy (neck) recorded a team-leading eight tackles in Sunday's loss to the Packers. After leaving the Bears' Week 3 contest early due to the neck injury, Mundy returned to action Sunday without any apparent limitations. He's posted a respectable 24 stops to go along with an interception return for a touchdown through four games this season.
