Mathews (knee) remains out of practice and is not expected to play Thursday versus the Broncos, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Mathews suffered a sprained MCL on Sept. 14 and has yet to resume running, so he was never really expected to return this Thursday. With Donald Brown (concussion) also still out, Branden Oliver approaches this week's game as the Chargers' No. 1 running back once again.

Mathews continues to work his way back from the right MCL sprain that he sustained Sept. 14, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. The report notes that Mathews has yet to resume running at this stage, and won't play Sunday against the Chiefs. Beyond that, his potential return date is uncertain and Mathews doesn't seem especially likely to suit up in Week 8 either, given that the Chargers will be playing that contest next Thursday, on a short week. With Donald Brown still not practicing, Branden Oliver is on track to head the San Diego backfield once again this weekend.

At this stage, Mathews (knee) has yet to resume running, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. While the report suggests that Mathews -- who suffered a right MCL sprain on Sept. 14 -- could return to action as early as this month, such an outcome is clearly not imminent. With Danny Woodhead out for the season and Donald Brown having suffered a concussion in Week 5, there's a good chance that Branden Oliver will head the Chargers' rushing attack on Sunday against the Raiders, with Ronnie Brown and Shaun Draughn on hand as complementary/reserve options.

Mathews (knee), who suffered a sprained MCL on Sunday, is expected to be sidelined for four or five weeks following MRI results Monday, NFL.com reports. Mathews went down while attempting to recover a fumble Sunday and was subsequently carted off the field. The Chargers' starting running back has been diagnosed with a sprained MCL and will now miss around a month of action. Last season was Mathews' only complete campaign since joining the league in 2010, but the Chargers prudently opted to sign Donald Brown this offseason to safeguard against another Mathews injury. With that situation unfolding Sunday, Brown's role within San Diego's offense should be expanded moving forward, with Danny Woodhead also receiving touches out of the Chargers' backfield.

Mathews, who left Sunday's game against the Seahawks with a right knee injury, is scheduled to undergo an MRI, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. The Chargers are reportedly worried that the injury is a sprained MCL, which would likely mean a multi-week absence. Mathews was carted off the field early in the fourth quarter after hurting himself while trying to recover his own fumble. He was deemed questionable to return, with the designation seeming rather optimistic. Should Mathews miss any time beyond Sunday, Donald Brown would be in line for a significant jump in snaps and touches.

Mathews (knee), who was carted off the field early in the fourth quarter, is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Seahawks, Ricky Henne of the Chargers' official website reports. While officially questionable, Mathews doesn't seem like a good bet to return, as he wasn't able to put weight on his leg, and had to be carted off the field. Donald Brown is currently working as the Chargers' lead back, with Danny Woodhead still the man in obvious passing situations.

Mathews was carted off the field after suffering an apparent right knee injury in Sunday's game against the Seahawks, Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Mathews was reportedly unable to put any pressure on his leg, which in conjunction with the cart, indicates the injury may be serious. Donald Brown will fill in as the Chargers' lead back, with Danny Woodhead still positioned to handle most of the third-down workload. Mathews hurt his knee while recovering his own fumble, which marked the second time he'd put the ball on the ground.

Mathews had 12 rushes for 40 yards and a touchdown in Monday night's loss at Arizona. He also added two receptions for 20 yards. The Bolts had a hard time running against the Arizona front seven for most of this game. With the exception of the twenty yard rushing touchdown that came on a key third-and-one, Mathews found the yards hard to come by in this game.

Mathews had 22 yards on four carries and 26 yards on two receptions in Sunday's preseason game against the 49ers. Though he had a touchdown reception called back because of a penalty, Mathews still turned in a solid performance. He was a bit more active in the passing game toward the end of last season, but his 26 receptions are about what you can expect this year. Mathews will also have more competition for early-down work due to the offseason addition of Donald Brown.
