Roy Helu rushed 13 times for 41 yards and a touchdown, and caught two passes for 43 yards in Washington's Week 4 win over Oakland.
With Alfred Morris (ribs) shelved by a third-quarter injury, Helu took over as Washington's featured, every-down back. No other Redskins runner handled a carry outside of RG3. Helu ripped off physical runs in late-game clock-killing mode, including a 14-yard touchdown to put the game away. Helu has been one of our favorite bench stashes because he offers even more upside than Morris due to his passing-game role. Unfortunately for Helu owners, the Redskins have a Week 5 bye. It's unclear if Morris will be back for Week 6.

Roy Helu was held without a carry in Washington's Week 2 loss to the Packers, and caught just one pass for two yards.
That's despite the fact that the Redskins were behind all afternoon, which in theory would increase the need for their third-down back. Zero threat to starter Alfred Morris, Helu isn't worth more than a back-end bench spot in PPR leagues.

Roy Helu rushed for five yards on one carry and caught one pass for 11 yards in Washington's Week 1 loss to the Eagles on Monday night.
Helu operated as the third-down and obvious passing-down back behind Alfred Morris. He saw plenty of action in the second half when the Redskins were in comeback mode, but was mainly used to pick up blitzing linebackers. Helu has some PPR value. He won't really be on the fantasy radar unless Morris goes down.

Roy Helu was officially named the Redskins No. 2 RB Tuesday.
Finally healthy, Helu earned the job by rushing 27 times for 157 yards with one touchdown and adding two catches for 35 yards in the preseason. An explosive one-cut runner that's an ideal fit for the Redskins' zone-blocking scheme, he'll start off as a third-down back and direct handcuff for Alfred Morris. If Alf were to get injured, Helu would explode. He's a decisive cutter that bursts off his plant leg.

Roy Helu rushed for 70 yards on 13 carries in Saturday's preseason game against Buffalo.
Helu added one catch for 21 yards when he roasted Bills LB Bryan Scott on a wheel route down the left sideline. Helu's strong preseason continues to roll on, and he looks fully recovered from toe and Achilles' injuries. Through three preseason games, Helu has 27 carries for 157 yards (5.8 YPC) and one touchdown. He also has two catches for 35 yards. Alfred Morris owners, here is your handcuff. Helu also holds stand-alone value in 12-team PPR leagues.

Roy Helu has locked up the Redskins' third-down job and No. 2 back spot behind Alfred Morris.
Alfred Morris owner? Here's your handcuff. "I was real excited about Roy," said OC Kyle Shanahan. "He's looked healthy since he came back and he showed that to all you guys vs. Tennessee. Roy is a legit back. He can help us a lot." Helu caught 49 passes as a rookie, before missing all but three games due to toe problems in 2012. He could flirt with standalone value in PPR leagues.

Roy Helu rushed 13 times for 57 yards in the Redskins' preseason opener Thursday night against Tennessee.
A solid 4.38 YPC clip. Helu got the start for Alfred Morris (rest), confirming he's leading the battle to be Morris' fantasy handcuff. Helu flashed second-level speed and cutting ability on his 13 carries, and is also the favorite for third-down work in Washington. He's worth a late-round fantasy pick.

Roy Helu continues to "have the edge" for the backup job.
Per the Washington Post, Helu is being used on standard run plays, option pitches and as a receiver out of the backfield. He's finally over the toe and Achilles' tendon issues that have bothered him since late in the 2011 season. If Helu can sustain health for another month, he's going to enter the season as the Redskins' passing-down back and direct backup to Alfred Morris.

The Washington Times notes projected third-down back Roy Helu's "speed and elusiveness on the second level sets him apart" from Alfred Morris.
Helu offers considerably more straight-line speed and arguably just as much or more second-level wiggle than Washington's starter. Helu is vying to be the Skins' third-down back two seasons after racking up 49 receptions and rushing for 100 yards in three straight games late in his rookie year. Helu is the early favorite for Morris "handcuff" duties. He's worth a late-round fantasy pick.

Roy Helu opened training camp as the Redskins' No. 2 running back, ahead of Evan Royster.
The Redskins want Helu to win the second tailback job and provide versatility as well as big-play speed behind starter Alfred Morris. In order, the rotation has so far looked like this: Morris, Helu, Royster, Keiland Williams, Tristan Davis, Chris Thompson, and Jawan Jamison. Thompson and Jamison are rookies.
