McClain injured his shoulder during Sunday's game against the 49ers, Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer reports.
EDGE Analysis
McClain's injury leaves Daryl Worley as the No. 3 option at cornerback for the Panthers, while another update regarding McClain's future status should become available upon the release of additional information.

McClain posted seven tackles (four solo) and one interception in three regular season games after signing with the Panthers in December.
EDGE Analysis
McClain, who was originally drafted by Carolina in 2010, rejoined the Panthers amid injuries to their secondary late in the regular season. Despite his late addition, McClain excelled in the regular season finale, leading him to start all three of the Panthers' playoff games, including the Super Bowl. He totaled 18 tackles (13 solo) and five passes defended in the postseason, which could earn him a significant role heading into next season.

McClain (ankle) wasn't listed on the Panthers' injury report Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
McClain commenced last week with a limited practice, which he followed up with unhindered sessions Thursday and Friday. With the shackles of an injury designation off his shoulders, he'll look to replicate his tackle totals from the past three games, during which he accrued 21 stops (15 solo) and one interception.

McClain (ankle) was a full participant at practice on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
McClain's injury appears to minor, and it likely won't affect his status for the Super Bowl barring any setbacks. He's in line to provide depth in the Panthers' secondary and play a role in nickel and dime packages.

McClain signed with the Panthers on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
With Bene Benwikere (arm) out for the season and Charles Tillman (knee) uncertain for Week 15, the Panthers are badly in need of depth at cornerback. McClain was originally selected by Carolina in the seventh round of the 2010 NFL Draft, but the bulk of his NFL experience came with the division-rival Falcons from 2012 to 2014. He could get a shot to compete for snaps in nickel packages.

McClain was released by the Patriots on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
McClain had been brought in this offseason to help bolster a cornerback corps that lost starters Darrelle Revis and Brandon Browner in free agency, but he was unable to stick with the Patriots, leaving Malcolm Butler, Tarell Brown, Bradley Fletcher and Logan Ryan as the team's option at the position in advance of Week 1.

The Patriots have signed McClain, the team's official site reports. McClain, who recorded 60 tackles and two picks with the Falcons in 2014, joins fellow newcomers Bradley Fletcher and Chimdi Chekwa, as the Patriots look to rebuild a cornerback corps that lost starters Darrelle Revis and Brandon Browner in free agency this offseason.

McClain is now listed as the No. 1 nickelback on the Falcons' depth chart, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. McClain was behind Josh Wilson heading into Week 1 against the Saints, but the former picked off Drew Brees, while tallying five tackles (four solo) in the victory. Conversely, Wilson failed to contribute in the boxscore, hence the reason McClain was bumped up to a starting role.

Falcons re-signed CB Robert McClain to a one-year, $1.43 million contract. A restricted free agent, McClain was never a threat to leave and would have cost another team a seventh-round pick to sign. Barring an upgrade in the draft, he'll return as the Falcons' primary slot corner in 2014.

The Falcons extended an original pick tender to restricted free agent Robert McClain. The tender is worth $1.431 million. Another team could try signing away McClain at the cost of a seventh-round pick, though we suspect it won't happen. Still a solid slot corner, McClain figures to return as Atlanta's nickel back behind the impressive young outside duo of Desmond Trufant and Robert Alford.
