Ayers has shed the cast on his ankle but is still not practicing, Jenna Laine of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
After exiting the Bucs' Week 2 tilt versus the Cardinals with is injury, Ayers missed all of practice last week, as well as the Week 3 loss to the Rams. The veteran defensive end's absence resulted in an uptick in William Gholston's tackle numbers and didn't seem to hinder Tampa's stalwart run defense, as they still managed to contain Todd Gurley to the tune of 3.1 YPC. If he logs another DNP on Thursday, Ayers will seemingly be on his way to missing another contest.

Ayers was wearing a boot on his left foot following the Buccaneers' loss to the Cardinals on Sunday, Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Ayers declined to take questions following the game, but the boot hints that his injury is either a foot or an ankle. Ayers was limited in practice all of last week with ankle problems, so he may have tweaked his left one during Sunday's game. More details regarding his status will be known once practice starts up for the week. Noah Spence should gain additional snaps if Ayers is to miss any time.

Ayers totaled two tackles, including one for loss, and a sack in Sunday's 31-24 victory over the Falcons.
EDGE Analysis
Playing his first regular-season game in a Bucs uniform, Ayers tallied the first of three total sacks of Matt Ryan on the day, dropping him for a four-yard loss on a key third down deep in Tampa territory early in the first quarter. The sack halted Atlanta's downfield march and forced them to settle for a field goal, a defensive stop that would ultimately prove to be one of several important components of the upset victory. Ayers figures to wreak his fair share of havoc from both the outside and interior of a much-improved defensive line this season.

Ayers was lined at tackle with the first-string defense in Sunday's practice, Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Bucs appear intent on finding ways to get as much of their burgeoning pass-rushing talent on the field at the same time, as Ayers has already been featured in various packages at both end and tackle. A move inside for the offseason acquisition offers the potential for some inside push and collapsing of the pocket while also providing dynamic second-round pick Noah Spence and productive end Jacquies Smith the opportunity to rotate in with Ayers in the game.
