Free agent S Quintin Mikell believes new Eagles defensive coordinator Juan Castillo will move from an aggressive blitz-heavy scheme to more of a Cover-2. Castillo has expressed admiration for Lovie Smith's Tampa-2 system in Chicago, and defensive coach Jim Washburn was imported to generate more of a push from the front four linemen. "I know Coach (Andy) Reid has wanted to run the Cover 2 for a long time," said Mikell. Theoretically, the Eagles fantasy D/ST could take a hit with the aggressiveness dialed back from the Jim Johnson blitzkrieg days.

In addition to Barry Cofield, Pro Football Weekly "hears" that the Rams may be interested in S Quintin Mikell and LB Ben Leber in free agency. Leber would only be a stopgap solution, but he can play all three linebacker positions and both outside spots are need areas for St. Louis. The Mikell connection is obvious; he played for Steve Spagnuolo in Philadelphia. Mikell is entering his age 31-season, however, and the Rams haven't had success with veteran free agent pickups at safety under the Spags/Billy Devaney regime.

Free agent SS Quintin Mikell could be a fallback option for the Cowboys if Gerald Sensabaugh signs with another club. Fox Sports Southwest believes Sensabaugh is after a big pay day, and the Cowboys should "let him get that elsewhere" (Houston?). The Eagles appear to be moving on from Mikell, who was still playing at a high level last season. A Michael Huff-Quintin Mikell pairing would be a major upgrade in Dallas.
