While backup QB Chad Henne isn't in line to play in the contest, coach Andy Reid indicated that the Chiefs' starters could play as much as the first half Saturday. Mahomes thus is in line to be followed in the contest by Shane Buechele and Dustin Crum.

Mahomes went 6-for-7 for 60 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's preseason opener against the Bears.

Mahomes only got one possession in his first tune-up game, but it could hardly have gone much better. He marched his team down the field before tossing a five-yard touchdown pass to Blake Bell. It's possible he'll remain in the game longer next week against Washington.

Based on coach Andy Reid's comments, after Mahomes works in the first quarter of the contest, the team will turn to Chad Henne in the second quarter, Shane Buechele in the third and finish up with Dustin Crum in the fourth quarter. In that scenario, Mahomes may not rack up a ton of passing attempts, but he will at least have a chance to get in some game reps with Kansas City's retooled wide receiver corps.

Though Mahomes tweaked his ankle during Monday's practice, coach Andy Reid downplayed the issue, Charles Goldman of USA Today reports. "Yeah, he got stepped on," Reid noted of the Chiefs' starting QB. "He's OK. He's alright. An offensive lineman got pushed back into him."

With Mahomes evidently having avoided any injury of note, the star signal-caller will look to continue building his rapport with Kansas City's re-tooled wide receiver corps, which features JuJu Smith-Schuster, Mecole Hardman, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Skyy Moore. With former top wideout Tyreek Hill now with the Dolphins, there are targets up for grabs in the team's passing game, but however they are allocated, Mahomes no doubt will benefit from the continued presence of clear-cut top end Travis Kelce.

Mahomes will have to contend with a revamped wideout corps in 2022 after the Chiefs traded top receiver Tyreek Hill to the Dolphins on Wednesday in exchange for multiple draft picks, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

In the wake of the move, the Chiefs' wideout ranks are currently headed by JuJu Smith-Schuster and Mecole Hardman, with Josh Gordon, Justin Watson, Cornell Powell, Gehrig Dieter and Corey Coleman on hand as depth. That said, the Chiefs are destined to add numbers at the position, either through what's left in the free-agent pool and/or via April's draft. Regardless, losing a proven target and playmaker like Hill isn't optimal with regard to Mahomes' fantasy upside, at least until there's added clarity with regard to Kansas City's wideout pecking order once the dust settles this offseason.

Mahomes completed 26 of 39 passes for 275 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions in Sunday's 27-24 overtime AFC Championship Game loss to the Bengals. He added 19 yards on three rushing attempts.

Mahomes was unstoppable early on, capping Kansas City's first three drives with touchdown passes to Tyreek Hill (10 yards), Travis Kelce (five yards) and Mecole Hardman (three yards) en route to a 21-3 lead. He had an opportunity to build on a 21-10 lead from Cincinnati's one-yard line just before halftime but made an ill-advised throw to Hill short of the end zone, running out the clock. Momentum shifted to the Bengals after that, and the visitors took a 24-21 lead before Mahomes led Kansas City to a game-tying field goal with three seconds left in the fourth quarter. The Chiefs then got an opportunity to secure a second consecutive postseason overtime win when they won the coin toss in overtime, but Mahomes threw his second interception of the day after a pair of incomplete passes, and the Bengals kicked the game-winning field goal on the ensuing drive. Despite failing to reach the Super Bowl this year, Mahomes remains the gold standard of quarterback play -- both on the field and in fantasy -- as he's led his team to the AFC Championship Game in each of the past four seasons while throwing at least 37 regular-season touchdowns in three of those years.

Mahomes completed 33 of 44 passes for 378 yards and three touchdowns in Sunday's 42-36 overtime win over the Bills. He added 69 yards and a touchdown on seven rushing attempts.

Mahomes scored an eight-yard rushing touchdown and threw a two-yard score to Byron Pringle in the first half. After a quiet third quarter, Mahomes turned it on as the Bills and Chiefs traded leads down the stretch. A 64-yard touchdown pass to Tyreek Hill put the Chiefs up 33-29 with 1:02 remaining, but the Bills retook the lead with 13 seconds left, only for Mahomes to complete two passes for 44 yards, setting up Harrison Butker's game-tying 49-yard field goal. Kansas City marched down the field after winning the toss in overtime, with Mahomes' eight-yard touchdown pass to Travis Kelce sending the Chiefs to the AFC Championship Game against the Bengals.

Mahomes completed 30 of 39 pass attempts for 404 yards, five touchdowns and one interception while rushing for 29 yards on three carries in Sunday's 42-21 win over Pittsburgh.

EDGE Analysis

Mahomes had about as flawless of a playoff performance as one could envision as the Chiefs made easy work of the Steelers in the wild-card round. The 26-year-old looked like his 2019 Super Bowl MVP self, slinging dots at all three pass depths en route to a gaudy stat line. The Chiefs will advance to the AFC divisional round to face Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills in what is shaping up to be a treat for football fans next week. The Bills boast one of the league's best overall defenses and arguably the best coverage safety duo in the league. That being said, the Steelers also presented a tough matchup on paper for Mahomes, but he was able to slice through their unit like Swiss cheese.

Mahomes completed 27 of 44 pass attempts for 270 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in Saturday's 28-24 win over the Broncos. He also rushed the ball nine time for 54 yards.

EDGE Analysis

Mahomes played the majority of the game without Tyreek Hill (heel), though he still managed to move the ball effectively. He showed particular rapport with Mecole Hardman, as the duo connected on gains of 44 and 21 yards. Meanwhile, Mahomes threw for multiple touchdowns for the fifth consecutive game, finding Travis Kelce for a three-yard score and Jerick McKinnon from 14 yards away. To round out his line, Mahomes topped 50 yards on the ground for only the second time this season. Though Mahomes hasn't surpassed 300 passing yards in six of his last seven starts, he will lead Kansas City into the playoffs with plenty of confidence after his solid showing.

Mahomes completed 26 of 35 passes for 259 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 34-31 loss to Cincinnati. He added 25 yards on two rushing attempts.

EDGE Analysis

After punting on the opening drive, the Chiefs reeled off four consecutive touchdown drives, which included touchdown passes of 29 yards to Demarcus Robinson and three yards to Travis Kelce from Mahomes. Kansas City had a 28-17 halftime lead but cooled off after halftime while Cincinnati's offense just kept chewing clock and scoring points. What looked like it could be a memorable performance early fizzled out into a subpar game by Mamomes' lofty standards, but the loss means the top seed in the AFC will remain in play in Week 18, so Mahomes will start the Chiefs' season finale in Denver.
