Franklin announced Monday that he is retiring from football.
EDGE Analysis
Franklin's post states that his retirement comes in large part to the offensive lineman wanting to spend more time with his family. Franklin played seven years in the NFL and was most recently released by the Redskins.

Franklin was released by the Redskins on Thursday, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM Radio reports.
EDGE Analysis
Franklin had a brief stint with the Redskins in 2017, appearing in one game, and was signed by the team after the season. The veteran lineman will be looking to catch on with another team in 2018, likely as a backup option.

Franklin was Brian McNally of the Richmond Times-Dispatch by the Redskins on Friday, caplan reports.
EDGE Analysis
Franklin was signed by Washington less than a week ago as they dealt with numerous injuries on their offensive line, but found themselves 12 prior to cutting the veteran guard. The 29-year-old will have to hope for another opportunity if he's to play again this season.

Franklin signed a contract with the Redskins on Saturday, Brian McNally of the Richmond Times-Dispatch reports.
EDGE Analysis
Franklin spent less than a week with the Saints in training camp, but has surprising been a free agent since being released by the Chargers in May. The Redskins have six offensive lineman on their injury report this week, which could press the 29-year-old into a significant role early on with his new team.

Franklin, who'd signed with the Saints on Thursday, was released Tuesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Franklin was expected to give the Saints some flexibility along the offensive line with Terron Armstead (shoulder) and Max Unger (foot) tending to injuries. The 29-year-old veteran will now need to find a new home before the regular season.

Franklin was released by the Chargers on Monday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
EDGE Analysis
Franklin inked a five-year, $36.5 million deal with the Chargers back in 2015, but after seeing the team invest draft picks in younger, less expensive options, the 29-year-old has now been cut loose. Considering Franklin has started all 89 of his career appearances, the veteran is destined to land elsewhere ahead of training camp.

ESPN's Eric Williams projects Franklin at the starting left guard to open the season.
EDGE Analysis
Franklin faces stiff competition from the likes of Max Tuerk, Donavon Clark and Dan Feeney, all players who are either in their first or second year of the NFL, so it makes sense the veteran would get the nod for now. However, should Franklin disappoint during training camp, don't be surprised if he gets a quick hook, as the Chargers have suggested a youth movement may be in the works along the offensive line.

Franklin will have competition for his starting job, Jack Wang of the Orange County Register reports.
EDGE Analysis
Franklin hasn't quite lived up to the billing since joining the Chargers in 2015, as a handful of nagging injuries have kept the 29-year-old from seeing the field for portions of the last two seasons. Given the Chargers drafted two guards, Forrest Lamp and Dan Feeney in the 2017 NFL Draft, and the return of 2016 draftee Max Tuerk, who spent his entire rookie year recovering from an ACL injury, it appears the writing may be on the wall for Franklin, whose release could free up much needed money for Los Angeles.

Franklin (shoulder) is questionable to play Sunday versus the Chiefs.
EDGE Analysis
While Franklin wasn't able to practice until Friday, he also hasn't missed a game since injuring his hip in Week 14. Barring any sort of setback over the course of the weekend -- or if the Chargers simply elect to hold him out, Franklin should be ready to go come game time.
