Mike Wallace said the Dolphins' new offensive scheme is "my style." Fired OC Mike Sherman believed in a quick-hitting, horizontal West Coast offense. Wallace was predictably a square peg in that scheme, simply lining up as a right-side clear-out receiver the majority of the time. He set career-lows in YPC (12.7) and touchdowns (5). New OC Bill Lazor is about chunk plays and moving his best players all over the formation. Wallace has bounce-back appeal.

Mike Wallace lined up as the Dolphins' right-side wide receiver on 90 percent of the team's offensive snaps in 2013. As reporter Armando Salguero notes, Wallace "rarely went into the slot" and "rarely motioned." This made Wallace easy for defenses to take away. Salguero suggests new OC Bill Lazor -- formerly the Eagles' QBs coach -- could employ Wallace like Chip Kelly did with DeSean Jackson last season. Jackson aligned all over the formation, and played nearly 30 percent of his snaps in the slot.

The Miami Herald reports that the Dolphins have "vehemently denied" that Mike Wallace is on the track block. CBS Sports has reported that Wallace is on the block in each of the past two months, but the Dolphins have been firm in their denials. It's quite possible that the Dolphins aren't telling the truth, but Wallace's $15 million 2014 base salary makes him all but impossible to deal. We expect he'll remain in South Beach.

According to CBS' Jason La Canfora, the Dolphins have renewed attempts to trade Mike Wallace.

A Dolphins source is denying a CBS Sports report that the team has interest in trading Mike Wallace, Cameron Wake, and Dion Jordan. The team source denied all three rumors in a Friday conversation with the Miami Herald's Armando Salguero. Salguero trusts the Dolphins official over CBS' Jason La Canfora. It's worth noting, however, that ESPN's Louis Riddick stated Friday he's been aware of the Dolphins' interest in dealing Jordan for "weeks." This story isn't going away. Wallace is the least likely to be dealt because he's owed a ridiculous $15 million base salary in 2014.

Two "Dolphins people" told the Miami Herald that Ryan Tannehill can throw deep balls with anticipation to Brian Hartline, but "cannot consistently" to Mike Wallace. The same Dolphins staffers dispute a CBS report that coach Joe Philbin will put Tannehill on a shortened 2014 leash, but "feel strongly" that Tannehill "must improve his chemistry" with $60 million man Wallace. Per Football Outsiders, Wallace finished his first season in Miami with a 52 percent "catch rate." His catch rates in Pittsburgh 2010-2012 were 61, 64, and 54, respectively.

Mike Wallace stressed that he and Ryan Tannehill need to work on their deep-ball chemistry this offseason. "We have to," Wallace said. "Definitely have got to get the deep ball going. That's the difference between winning and losing a couple games. I should have had 15 or 20 more touchdowns. And that's being modest. If you press me, you have no shot to cover me. Once I get you to stop your feet, it's over." It was glaring to those who watched Dolphins games in 2013 that Wallace and Tannehill had no connection. Tannehill's deep ball needs a lot of work; he missed Wallace a number of times down field. Per Pro Football Focus, Tannehill completed just 6-of-36 passes that were 20-plus yards downfield intended for Wallace. That was the worst rate in the NFL.

Mike Wallace caught six passes for 105 yards and a touchdown in Miami's Week 15 win over the Patriots. The big day came even after Wallace got under-thrown by Ryan Tannehill on yet another likely deep score. The touchdown Wallace did came on a contested 1-on-1. Wallace slipped his man on a slant, and was off 39 yards to the house. Wallace now has at least 82 yards in three of his past four games, and has gotten himself back into the WR2 conversation.

Mike Wallace caught two passes for 19 yards in Sunday's Week 14 game win at Pittsburgh. Facing Ike Taylor and his old teammates, Wallace was a complete non-factor. To be fair, the snowy and slippery conditions didn't suit his skill-set or the Dolphins' quick-passing gameplan. Wallace will be in a better spot against the Patriots in Week 15, but he'll be facing Aqib Talib. He'll be a boom-or-bust WR3.
