Thomas (shoulder) was released by the Ravens from the active/PUP list with an injury settlement Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Thomas suffered a separated shoulder and a labrum injury at some point this offseason, which will require surgery, so Baltimore moved on Monday. The wide receiver will likely be forced to miss the entirety of the 2023 campaign and set his sights on a potential return in 2024.

It's unclear when Thomas suffered the injury, but he'll presumably be unavailable for the rest of Baltimore's OTAs and perhaps the start of training camp. The reserve wideout latched on with the Ravens' practice squad last December and earned a reserve/future contract in January, but he's a long shot to make the 2023 Week 1 roster, especially if he remains sidelined to begin camp.

Thomas joined Baltimore's practice squad Dec. 20 almost exactly one month after he was waived by the Bengals. Over the past three years with Cincinnati, the 28-year-old caught 20 of 42 targets for 222 yards and a touchdown in 36 regular-season games. The veteran wideout never received an elevation from the Ravens' practice squad even though starting wideouts Rashod Bateman (foot) and Devin Duvernay (foot) both finished the season on IR. Thomas will likely try to work his way onto the active roster as a potential core special-teamer heading into the 2023 campaign.

Just less than a month after being waived by Cincinnati, Thomas has found another opportunity with a division rival. With Tylan Wallace (hamstring) and Rashod Bateman (foot) both on the injured reserve list, it wouldn't be surprising to see the 28-year-old wideout Thomas be elevated as soon as Saturday's game versus Atlanta.

Thomas being removed from the roster may suggest that fellow wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase is close to returning from his hip injury. Cincinnati gave Thomas opportunities on the outside while Chase and Tee Higgins missed time due to injuries this season, but the 28-year-old wide receiver failed to capitalize, catching just two of 10 targets for 38 yards.

Thomas didn't have any targets in the Bengals' win over the Panthers, despite playing 22 offensive snaps.

EDGE Analysis

It didn't help Thomas that the Bengals were running the ball so well, but it also appears as if Trent Taylor and even practice squad receiver Trenton Irwin have eclipsed Thomas. So much for the notion that he would step up with Ja'Marr Chase out.

Thomas failed to bring in his lone target while playing 24 of the Bengals' 53 snaps on offense in Monday's 32-13 loss to the Browns.

EDGE Analysis

Though he was one of several pass catchers who moved into a larger role with Ja'Marr Chase (hip) sidelined for the contest, Thomas nor any of the Bengals' other pass-catching options came through with notable receiving production on a night the Browns dominated the time of possession. A more favorable matchup could await the Bengals in Week 9 against the 2-6 Panthers, but Thomas is still likely to find himself behind all of Tee Higgins, Tyler Boyd and Hayden Hurst in the team's pass-catching hierarchy.

Thomas played on just four offensive snaps and failed to see a single target in Sunday's 30-26 win over the Saints.

EDGE Analysis

Thomas was a complete non-factor in the Bengals' offense with fellow wideout Tee Higgins back in the mix Sunday. Barring injuries to the team's pass catchers, the 28-year-old receiver will find it hard to have much of an impact with limited opportunities on offense. Thomas remains far off the fantasy radar heading into a Week 7 matchup with the Falcons.

Thomas played 41 offensive snaps in Sunday night's loss to the Ravens, catching one pass for 33 yards.

EDGE Analysis

Thomas was pressed into extra action with Tee Higgins out most of the game after Higgins aggravated an ankle injury. The low target share even with Higgins out illustrates the low percentage likelihood that he'll play a big role going forward.
