Mike Kafka is the Eagles' No. 2 quarterback in Sunday's game against the Giants, according to NFL.com's Jason La Canfora. Although Vince Young (hamstring) is active for the first time this season, Kafka is expected to the call if Michael Vick suffers an in-game injury. The two will continue to battle in practice for the job, meaning Vick has no clear handcuff in fantasy right now.

ESPN's Sal Paolantonio reports that Mike Kafka took the majority of the first-team reps during the Eagles' Wednesday walkthrough. Mike Vick (concussion) took some, and Vince Young (hamstring) didn't get any. It's clear by now that V.Y. is out of the picture for Week 3. The Eagles will choose between Vick and Kafka to start against the Giants. "The expectation is that Michael Vick will start in the home opener," confirms Sal Pal.

Forced into action after Michael Vick was knocked out with a concussion, Mike Kafka completed 7-of-9 passes for 72 yards in Philadelphia's Week 2 loss to the Falcons. In reality, Kafka didn't miss a throw, as one of his incompletions was a throw Jeremy Maclin should have corraled on a late 4th-and-4 late while the other was a hail-mary attempt. It was a commendable effort from the second-year pro, who made quick decisions while showing impressive touch and poise. Kafka was only in the game because regular backup Vince Young was inactive with a hamstring injury. It's unclear whom the Eagles will call on if Vick isn't able to give it a go in Week 3.

The Inquirer places acquiring a backup QB fairly high on the Eagles' post-lockout agenda, in large part because Kafka isn't ready for the promotion. He certainly didn't appear to be in his rookie year preseason. Tarvaris Jackson and Vince Young are impending free agents that may intrigue Philadelphia.

Offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg indicated that Mike Kafka "could be the best rookie that I've ever had in 15, 16, 17 years" as far as picking up the offense. Slot receiver Jason Avant believes Kafka is ready to fill the No. 2 role if Kevin Kolb is traded. As high as the Eagles seem to be on Kafka as a developmental prospect, they're going to put that weight on his shoulders while gunning for the Super Bowl.
