Former Colts RB Mike Hart has accepted a job on the coaching staff of Eastern Michigan University. Nothing is official yet, but it appears that Hart has retired from the NFL. The all-time leading rusher at the University of Michigan suffered through three injury-plagued seasons in Indy, finishing with 71 carries for 264 yards and two touchdowns in 21 career games.

The Colts did not extend RB Mike Hart a restricted tender before the lockout, making him an unrestricted free agent. Hart is a fan favorite in Indianapolis, but the 25-year-old has been extremely injury prone and only moderately effective as a ball carrier. His career YPC average is 3.72. The Colts didn't deem him worthy of the $1.2 million or so lowest possible tender, which isn't a great sign for Hart's value on the open market. Really, he's only a third-string caliber NFL back.
