Roos (knee) announced his retirement from the NFL on Thursday, Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean reports. The former second-round pick played 10 seasons in the NFL, all with the Titans. He earned his lone Pro Bowl invite and All-Pro recognition in 2008, and was a key run blocker during Chris Johnson's 2,000-yard season in 2009. He saw his final season with the Titans come to an early conclusion after five games when he required microfracture surgery on his right knee. Taylor Lewan, who was the Titans' first-round selection in the 2014 NFL Draft, is expected to serve as the long-term successor for Roos.

The Nashville Tennessean named LT Michael Roos the "offseason star" among the Titans' offensive line. Top beat writer Jim Wyatt fully expects Roos to be protecting Jake Locker's blind side come Week 1, with the real competition going on on the right side of the line between Michael Oher and Taylor Lewan. If Oher plays like he did in Baltimore, Lewan should have no trouble beating him out talent-wise. However, GM Ruston Webster laughably gave Oher $9.5 million guaranteed in March. Oher is penciled in as the starter, but keep the eraser within reach.

ESPN's John Clayton believes the Titans could make LT Michael Roos "trade bait" if first-round rookie Taylor Lewan proves ready to start right away. Roos, 32 in October, is entering the final year of his deal and will count $6.625 million against the cap. While that's a big chunk of change to take on, Roos has missed just one start since 2005 and is still playing at a high level. He was a top-three tackle at PFF in 2012 before grading out in the top-16 last season while excelling as a run blocker. The Titans would do well to fetch a mid-rounder.

The Nashville Tennessean believes the Titans should look to extend LT Michael Roos' contract this offseason. Roos, 31, is entering the final year of a six-year, $43 million contract and is set to earn a $6.625 million base salary. He's missed just one start since being the No. 41 overall pick in the 2005 draft out of Eastern Washington. Pro Football Focus graded Roos out as its No. 12 left tackle in 2013. He's been an anchor in Tennessee.

Titans LT Michael Roos (appendectomy) has been ruled out for Week 8 against Indianapolis. He'll be replaced by usual swing tackle Mike Otto. Roos' absence could bit the Titans this Sunday because Otto will most often match up with Colts RE/OLB Dwight Freeney. Freeney is Indianapolis' only real pass rusher with Robert Mathis still out due to a knee injury.

Roos may be "day-to-day," but it will be extremely tough for him to suit up just six days after emergency surgery, even for a player who hasn't missed a game since 2005. Roos has been exceptional on the blindside during his age-30 season. Mike Otto will get the start if Roos can't go against the Colts.
