Ford was among the Bears' cuts on Sunday, the team's official site reports. Ford, who had fallen behind Shaun Draughn and rookie Ka'Deem Carey for slotting behind starter Matt Forte, will now look to catch on elsewhere as a depth back.

Ford didn't touch the ball on offense until there were less than 10 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter of Friday's preseason opener against the Eagles. Not only did Ford work behind Matt Forte, Shaun Draughn and Ka'Deem Carey, but he was actually used as the No. 5 running back, with UDFA Senorise Perry serving as the No. 4. It may be that Perry has really made an impression, or perhaps Ford is facing an uphill battle to make the final roster. Some combination of the two is also possible, but it was already hard enough to view Ford as a legitimate candidate to serve as Forte's primary backup, and this hasn't made it any easier.

Coach Marc Trestman stated after minicamp that the Bears' No. 2 running back battle remains wide open. Fourth-round pick Ka'Deem Carey is considered the favorite to back up Matt Forte, but we can't rule out ex-Chief Shaun Draughn, or highly athletic second-year UDFA Michael Ford. "We've got a really good competition," Trestman said. "But we just don't know who has the edge when they're only in shorts."
