The Cardinals have released Starks, the team's official site reports. Starks, who has been dealing with an ankle injury, became the odd man out after losing ground to fellow tackle Bradley Sowell over the past couple of weeks.

Rams released OT Max Starks. The move clears a roster spot for OLB Jo-Lonn Dunbar, and is an indication RT Rodger Saffold (knee) will be ready for Week 5. Starks played just eight snaps in two games for the Rams. The former Steeler is near the end of his career.

Rams signed OT Max Starks, formerly of the Chargers, to a one-year contract. Starks, 31, was in for a workout with the Rams on Tuesday. He was joined by fellow veteran Demetress Bell and undrafted rookie R.J. Dill at the tryout. With RT Rodger Saffold (MCL) sidelined for a couple weeks, the Rams needed a No. 3 tackle behind starters Jake Long and Joe Barksdale. Starks looked finished in the preseason when he couldn't beat out King Dunlap in San Diego.

Free agent OTs Max Starks and Demetress Bell worked out for the Rams on Tuesday. Rams RT Rodger Saffold will be sidelined for a few weeks with an MCL injury. Joe Barksdale is his backup and has held his own in 57 snaps played through two weeks. He'll start for however long Saffold is out, but the Rams need a swing tackle. Starks couldn't beat out King Dunlap in Chargers camp this summer.

Chargers released OT Max Starks. Starks was signed to a one-year, $2 million deal in May to solidify the blindside in San Diego, but instead wathced King Dunlap run circles around him in training camp. The Bolts are swallowing a $1 million signing bonus, which shows just how far Starks' play has fallen. A 16-game starter for the Steelers last season, Starks should make himself part of the workout circuit, but is no longer a starting-caliber player.

It would reportedly be a "major upset" if Max Starks beats out King Dunlap for the starting left tackle job. Dunlap has gotten the vast majority of first-team reps and is listed first on the initial depth chart, making him the "clubhouse leader." At least the Chargers have a viable competition going, one year after trying to get undrafted rookie Mike Harris ready to go on Philip Rivers' blind side. Dunlap graded out as ProFootballFocus' No. 33 tackle while playing for the Eagles last season. He was strong in pass protection and struggled in the run game.

The Union-Tribune San Diego reports free agent LT Max Starks is "still considered in the mix" for the Chargers following his Wednesday visit. The visit was described as "positive," even though Starks left without a deal. The U-T San Diego confirms Starks would immediately overtake King Dunlap to be the Bolts' starting left tackle if signed. Starks turned 31 in January.

Free agent OT Max Starks says he has had a "couple of conversations" with a "few organizations," and he hopes to have a deal done by OTAs. Most OTAs start in roughly two weeks, although teams with new head coaches start a week earlier. Starks is visiting the Chargers on Wednesday, and the 31-year-old says he hasn't ruled out a return to the AFC North. There aren't any openings for starting tackle jobs in the division. San Diego is his best shot for a starting gig, and beat writer Michael Gehlken doubts he "gets away."
